View Full Version : Womble woes

I'm wanting to edit videos taken with my mobile phone digital camera (3GP format), and ones taken with my regular Digital Camera (MJPEG/avi), using Womble MPEG Video Wizard.
However, womble dosn't accept 3GP so i need to convert the mobile phone videos before i import to womble.
And, the .avi Digital camera video's should be accepted by womble, but for some reason aren't, mabye 'cause it's MJPEG avi, and not MP4 avi, i don't know.

So i've tried a couple of MP4 converters to try and convert my vid's into something womble should accept, but i've had no success. I've tried ImTOO MP4 Video Converter, Total Video Converter, Xilisoft Mp4 Converter, & MIKSOFT Mobile 3GP converter.
All of the exported MP4 files i tried will not open in Womble, and Total Video Converter wouldn't even export 'cause of some error.

So anyone had any expierience with womble and/or MP4 converters?
Anyone use a specific program/method that they know works?
thanks.

Install Avisynth, Haali Media Splitter, CoreAVC and perhaps CoreAAC.
Make an avisynth scriptfile like this:
DirectshowSource ("yourfile.3gp")
Then try to open this script file in WombleVCR. If you can't try to convert this .AVS file to .AVI frameserved via VFAPI converter with DGMPGDec.
Make a similar script for your MJPG/AVI file.

Are you yanking my chain?

@josh81

The instructions from Jalavera are the correct ones. Perhaps its neccesary to know the avisynth world and related techniques (see guides in this forum) to properly understand it. BTW (by the way) i must googled to find an explanation to "yanking my chain" (I'm spanish and clueless about slang).

Good luck

Moving to Newbies, this has nothing to do with analog capture, but does have to do with someone new to the forum and new to conversions (of 3GP or MJPEG, anyway).

Josh81: you received a set of instructions that you apparently did not understand. Your chain was not being yanked.

Thanks for moving it to newbies, i though this might have been the right forum to post in, but obviously not.
That Jalavera's post seemed like he was making stuff up it sounded so gobbley-gooky to me.
Newbies is the right place for me, i see now.

This womble is a big pain, it just dosen't want to open the files it says it should. Unless it's the 1/2 a dozen MP4 converters i've tried that's the problem, something with their exports. But i doubt 6 programs are at fault instead of 1.
Does anyone know if Video-ReDo has this same problem? I would try it and see, but my trial has expired, and i don't want to buy if it it's not going to work with the files i want.

QuickTime Pro should be able to convert your 3GP files to MP4...

Ok, thanks. But it costs money. I'd rather use a program that has a trial because then i can find out if it converts a MP4 file that Womble will open. Rather than spending money on a program, and it dosen't meet my needs.

Ok i need some more info if you please. Javlavera, can you please elaberate on your post? So far i've download the Avisynth, Haali Media Splitter, CoreAVC and CoreAAC, VFAPI converter & DGMPGDec.

I don't know where to go from here.

What's a DirectShowSource?

I've try and have crack at it without assistance, but it will save me buckets of time and frustration if you expand your explanation.

thanks

avisynth is used by writing scripts, DirectShowSource() is one command that can be used to import/load video...

for an introduction to avisynth scripting, see here (http://www.avisynth.org/index.php?page=YourFirstScript)!

Ok, thanks killingspree. By the way, i was installing "K-lite codec pack" for the CoreAVC and CoreAAC, and it asked me if i wanted to uninstall Haali Media Splitter becuase they offer similar functionality.

So i do i still need CoreAVC and CoreAAC if i use Haali Media Splitter or vice versa?

personally i would NOT recommend installing any codec packs - they install a lot of crap you do not want (or need) and can be extremly hard to get rid of again...

So there's no easier way other than learning all this script creation mumbo jumbo, besides getting an IT degree. I'm so suprised how complicated it is, all i want to do is edit some of my digital camera videos, don't know why a program that states it accepts AVI and MPG, dosen't?
Don't know why i need half a dozen programs or codecs to do this.
I don't know why all of the half a dozen programs i've used to convert from AVI and 3GP to AVI,MP4,MPG or MP2 haven't produced a program that Womble will work with.
I think womble is a good video editor, pretty simple and basic, but good. But is it normal for it not to accept these files? If another video editing program will work with these files then i'll just use that.
Anyone know of another video editing program that will work properly? 'Cause i don't have time to learn all this other junk.

Well, that certainly shows the right spirit. :-\

Logical steps:
1) search for a free/cheap editor that supports 3gp
2) learn how to use AviSynth and be thankful it's free

Or start thinking whether Quicktime Pro might actually be worth your money.

And as for 'complicated', you might realize that driving a car also was a pretty complicated task when you tried to do it the first time. And here you are trying to do something with an application that the application was never meant to do. It doesn't know '3gp'. Full stop. Be thankful that there are ways around that limitation that gifted people came up with - and that the solution is free.

@josh81

As I suggested earlier, QuickTime Pro converts .3PG to .MP4. You may find that $29.99US is a reasonable price to pay to overcome your frustration ;>}

I know womble dosn't know 3GP, that's why i've tried these perticular converters which do know 3GP and apparently convert 3GP to MP4 and AVI and other, Teegedeck.
I've already searched for a free editor that supports 3GP, several in fact. None have worked despite them claiming to do what i want.

sterapid; i'm broke at the moment, so i'll probably hold off for the moment and give other things a try until my patience cracks.

i'm broke at the momentI'm sorry to hear that (I've been down that road myself - several times over the years). Hope things improve soon for you. If and when you do have the opportunity to explore QuickTime Pro, I believe you'll be pleased ;>}
