Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem where when i rip a VOB file from a dvd, it won't let me play the whole video and it seems to be cut short, almost as if i only have a part of the file
any ideas? is it a corruptted dvd or what is the problem?

Well, the most important facts you left out. How did you rip it and how are you trying to play it?

I converted a VOB to an MPG file.
If I open the file with a dvd program such as PowerDVD it plays and navigates fine, if i open it in a program such as Windows Media Player I can't seem to navigate within the file and it's all screwy.
When I open the file in an editor (Vegas) Vegas only opens part of the file (the 1st 6 seconds) and I can't get the program to see the whole video.
Any ideas? This is driving me nuts.
I am starting to think i'm missing a codec possibly? this is frustrating.

i don't believe the problem is related to the fact that i converted a .vob file, i ripped using DVD Decrypter IFO mode, and i also tried importing to the vob file after ripping into Sony Vegas and same results as above...

Hi!
1) What is the title and Region of your original, purchased DVD?
2) Does the ripped .VOB play properly (Before "converting" to MPEG)?
3) What software and procedures are you using to "convert" the .VOB?

Basically,
Everything plays fine in a dvd player (PowerDVD) but the files act crazy in Windows Media Player and when used in an editing program such as Sony Vegas.
To convert from VOB to .mpg & also .m2v i was doing 3 things:
- simply dragging the vob file off the dvd and renaming to .mpg
- using dvd decrypter to extract the vob
- using gordian knot to get the vob into a . m2v file
I am getting the feeling my pc might be missing something that is causing certain mpgs and .m2v files to not be read correctly? these are not copyrighted dvds or anything like that, all ntsc U.S. dvds that i need to edit some footage from

[Quote]these are not copyrighted dvds[Quote]Despite what you say, it sounds like you haven't actually "ripped" (removed copy protection and then copied) a .VOB from a CSS-protected (if not other protection as well) DVD - rather that you you simply copied the protected .VOB and then tried "converting" it.
Again I'd ask you, what is the title of your Region 1 DVD?

the title? it's a Juvenile music video that was sent to me, i also tried ripping it with Decrypter, but it's still not working properly.
Does it make sense how the file plays fine in a DVD program such as PowerDVD but won't work correctly in windows media player and in video editing software?

Your not going to be able to simply "drag and drop" from the DVD. And renaming isn't going to help you out either. You need to process it through something (even music videos have protection), down to your hard drive. (I would recommend DVDShrink, which reauthors the DVD very easily) If the video file is large, it could be split between two seperate .vobs, which would means a .vts would be needed, to direct the player to the next file, or it will cut off on you. If you are trying to take a downloaded file, even though it was sent to you, and transfer to a DVD format, DOOM9 cannot help you. You will have to go somewhere else, or try a search engine on _______to DVD.

i'm not taking a downloaded file and transferring to dvd.
I'm taking a dvd and trying to extract the video content so I can edit it in a program such as Adobe Audition or Sony Vegas.
Are there better ways to do this?

Rip it in file mode/all files.
Forget about WMP - it's a piece of crap.
If your editing s/w needs m2v's, just demux afterwards. Use PgcDemux or Vobedit.

Juvenile (aka Terius Gray) is a gangsta rapper from New Orleans. If you've been sent and are working with a copy of any of his work, it's obvioulsy copyrighted material.
