The SMP dual-CPU thread

Here's a good thread to post the pros and cons of using a dual-CPU system for what we all love to do- rip DVD's and make DIVS's, SVCD's, VCD's or Mini-DVD's as well as playback.
I am working on building myself a new PC and would love to go with a dual Athlon setup. The new 762MPX boards are due out any day now.
Any problems using a dual cpu setup for all the applications discussed in these forums? Any hardware (capture card, video, etc.) incompatibilities with certain dually setups?
All opinions welcome.

Im also interested in making the jump to a dual CPU. I have in mind quite a nice dual CPU board which also has RAID capability. The board handles upto 2X1.8 AMD. Im a little concerned about multi-threading clashes and how will my other hardware work with dual CPU's
If anyone has a dual processor running W2k or XP with a Burner, DVD etc and maybe a 2 disk RAID set up I would be interested in knowing any problems you has as well as the speed improvement.

I'm also thinkng of using dual cpu's, but I'm not sure it's worth it for me right away so I was thinking of buying the dual cpu board and jus 1 cpu. Then maybe 4 or 5 months down the road I could get another cpu of the same speed for a much more reasonable price.
What do you think about doing this?
Does it seem like a good idea?
Any flaws in my genius plan?

I'd be careful about doing that. It might be more difficult to match revisions doing it that way. Although I am unsure if Athlons are as picky as PIII's about which revisions work together. Something I would research before going that route.
but other than that, sounds like a good idea.

the thing i have had the most problems with is capture card. i have a ati tv wonder and as long as it is on an irq by itself it is fine. but if it shares with anything it crashes. right now it is shared with a nic. if i access internet while watching tv it likes to randomly crash. Other than that i have no complaints and i am planning on buying another smp system
