I am backing up Monsters Inc. and would like to do a movie only backup. However, when I do this it chooses the fullscreen version (has both fs and ws). THis is because this is the biggest vts. Is there a way to tell it exactly what vts to use in the movie only mode? Using DVDRB version 1.06.

As of yet, no. Being able to do it in future releases has been discussed though.
Due to RB's current limitations with your situation, you might try blanking the VTS that contains the FS version with another tool like VobBlanker. That should eliminate the need to re-encode altogether(jdobbs forgive me).

Oh it does indeed. I used dvd remake to blank out only that fullscreen version, but it broke the navigation. When I hit play now and choose widescreen, it will play the THX Intro and then go back to the main menu. I may try a different tool I suppose to blank the content.

Another option is to use DVD Shrink, re-author, and choose the WS version. Tell it "No compression" and save it to a folder (have it create VIDEO_TS folder). Basically all that will do is rip just the WS version to your HDD. You could do the same with DVD Decrypter if you know which files are the WS, but Shrink would certainly be easier.

I'll add something into the next version that allows you to override the selected VTS.

Just as an experiment, try this. Copy the DVD to hard drive... and simply delete the last VOB file or two of the full screen VTS -- then it will be smaller. DVD-RB will then do Movie Only from the other VTS... Since the others aren't scanned in Movie-Only mode it should make no difference.
I think it will work.

@jdobbs
Usually both versions are in the same vob files, aren't say?

Not when they are two different formats... if one is 4:3 fullscreen and the other is 16:9 widescreen ---> they have to be in different VTSs because you can't mix them.

Ahh, your right this would be out of the spec.
I was thinking about special extended and normal versions.
Can it be that this is a NTSC thing? Can't think of one PAL movie with both fs and ws versions. For sure not on german version of Monsters Inc.

That worked beautifully. Thanks JDobbs, once again your right on the money.
