Still waiting this feature to be added for a very long time , I don't like to use other tools to backup my own DVD , but sometimes I'm in need of reduce menu's bitrate and I have to do it with , for ex. , NuMenu. I'm not saying it is not good , but I don't really like the way it handles bitrate distribution and I think DVD-RB handles it the best way ever .
So jdobbs , how much will we have to wait to see this feature ?
Anyway, take this post as a thank-giving for all your efforts and an encouragement to keep working on this great piece of code I full trusted by its very early days !!!
Bye , TuRiSOft !!!

I'm wondering what you don't like about NuMenu's bitrate distribution? I agree that a global VBR isn't grandular enough to account for the often great fluctuation in menu bitrates, but I like the quality based VBR encoding menthod. Of course that has problems of size predictability, but NuMenu doesn't have to worry about that.

@wmansir :-)
Yes , I see your point , but as you say some original menus have different bitrate distribution , (menu-intros , low motion cells , high motion cells , transitions) , and with the actual method of redistribution NuMenu4u doesn't take into account the original cell-based or vobid-based distribution of bitrate and give each segment the same amount of bitrate . Sometimes the result is blocky transitions and good or very good low motion menus. The only workaround is to use OPV encoding (and it gives the best results as I recall from an old post from Sir Dydimus) but I think VBR it's better to keep the stream compliant with DVD specs (sometimes in OPV there are bitrate spikes I think can make buffer over-underflows) so Zeul (IMHO) shall implement a function to redistribute the assigned bitrate basing itself on the original distribution.
This is only my HO and that's why I don't really much like to use NuMenu4u (take in account I'm grateful to Zeul for his work , his is a real good piece of software , and don't forget I'm a VIP user of NuMenu).
I hope it's easy to understand my thought as I'm not English nor American so most of my words and expressions are translated from my mother language ( I learnt to write and speak , but I still use to think in Italian ) . Bye and Thanks @all!!!

Well, compressing menus.........
Oh boy I would really like that......
And JDOBBS has placed that one on his 'to do' list, so don't worry guys !!!
I sure like as many as possible functionality within ONE tool !!!
No more messing around with menushrink, rb-opt, dvd-remake-pro, and getting the punishment of 'preprocessing' source..:D
Yep, let JDOBBS do the JOB, I'm sure it's the best way......
I even want to have 2.70.2.4 filter support........
I now use RB-OPT.....
I have great respect for those making these tools, but I rather like to see DVD-RB-(PRO) giving me that functionality......
I even think as copy protection goes towards the right direction, JDOBBS can fairly ask money for a real UPGRADE of DVD-RB-PRO soon.......
If CCE costs about $1995 , what do we have left for DVD-RB-PRO ????
Well fairly speaking, I'm willing to pay for an upgrade.....
If menu's are compressable and CCE support is up to top gear, I sure won't have any problems to pay for an upgrade fee......
Let's be fair.........
JDOBBS is working hard and always finds the time to answer questions, so that's a kind of support I even don't see from software sellers coping with lot's more of expensive software and much less service....
Some friend of mine already asked for a 'copy'of DVD-RB-PRO....
I just said NO (by the way it even won't work !)
I even explained why, and finally they are going to buy it.......
Although we in Holland are not so strict about the law and the law isn't strict itself :D , I really buy good tools, that is if it's value for money.......
So I really own my tools.
Some people here who saw my backups on my BIG SCREEN TV, were very enthousiastic about it......
And then we have the fact in the netherlands we can LEGALLY BACKUP everything, even if not owned !
We pay our fees on empty media...... (man. I really NEVER should move to America !!!!)

Good post Apfraats. A fee for a substantial upgrade does not seem unfair. I only wish that DVD-Lab enjoyed a similar pricing and upgrade philosophy because I think Lab and Rebuilder complement each other.
I don't like the security key methods used by Rebuilder and Remake, but I can understand the reason for them and I hope the authors find it financially worth the extra hassle. I too would like to see Rebuilder keep expanding.
Isn't it strange that a country like Holland (or is it the Netherlands - I don't really know the difference) has such a relaxed and liberal interpretation of many laws that are strictly enforced in other places? Yet Dutch people seem to have a more responsible attitude than most, and instinctively tend to do what is morally right.
People get more bloody-minded with every new repressive law so that fairness and decency seem to take a back seat on both sides. More legislation only produces more new criminals that then leads to more legislation. I wonder why the multinational corporations don't realise that. Perhaps they should read "How to Make Friends and Influence People" instead of, apparently, "How to Make Enemies and Influence Governments".
Long may the independent developers reign!
Er.. Sorry if I'm preaching. :o
