View Full Version : 0.96 Installer Vers. + HC Enc = dropped frames. Why?

I have installed it used the defaults did not change anything. Also I made 3 runs with the 3 different quality options. None of it delivers a playable result. I used decrypter first (full dvd) which plays fine on my pc, I also could make a good "Shrink"-dvd, but I've read that dvd-rb with HC beats it all.
Here are the logs:

Done.

What is the reason for all these dropped frames ? BTW no overclocking or anything of that sort.

Hi, Taurus50.

Welcome to the forum. But please review the rules (#8).

What version of HC are you using? Also, could you post your REBUILDER.INI file (located in the executable directory)? Tell us what disc you are trying to encode. Also -- are you doing any modifications to the disc before running it through DVD Rebuilder?

It appears nothing is being encoded -- as a DVD couldn't possibly be completed in 33 minutes. Please also print out a listing of the D2VAVS directory and post it.

Sorry about #8.
I use the installer version with the HC that comes with it. "Hero" is the disc I want to encode. I used Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter, both with the same result. I made full copies without any changes no blanking just default for everything.
The Rebuilder.Ini doesnt tell me much. Here it is:

The D2VAVS I will post tomorrow as I have deleted it, so I will run it again.

Thanks anyway. I hope you can help me as I am eager to know the quality of the HC encoder. Oh, I forgot to mention, that I exchanged the HCbatch.exe with version 16, but that did not change anything, so I put back version 15.

What kind of processor are you using?

Also, you may want to try turning turn off the Half/half option just to see if it has an effect.

How much free space do you have on your drive?

You may want to uncheck the "Run minimized" flag in the setup dialog so you can see what is happening on the failing segments. HC will usually show an error message for a few seconds before it exits.

I have about 80GB free space on C and 50GB on V.

disable scence change detection.
in the ini file. in the folder

{dvd-rb}\encoder\hc\hc.ini

erase the line if line exist
that enable scene change detection.
this happened to me to.
after disabling this all was ok.

edit: i didn't have 9kb files, i had normal size files but frame drop were still found.

@Taurus50
Are you sure about the source files? are thay on the same place as they were when you started the process?
This may seem a stupid question... but it happened to me before :)

if all else fails you may want to test it with QuEnc as encoder aswell and see if it also does the same thing. this would help see if its a HC problem or not.

You may want to uncheck the "Run minimized" flag in the setup dialog so you can see what is happening on the failing segments. HC will usually show an error message for a few seconds before it exits.

I did, but there was'nt any error message. HC just stopped for a few seconds and then moved on to the next.
But, near one of the last files, one of those XP messages came up and set somthing about an "offset 00001a72".

I noticed something on the HC window at the top left section where something is said about "arguments passed". The ini.file and bias have just a dash behind them and not "passed". Is that right?

The HC.ini says:

*BITRATE 4000
*FRAMES 1 0
*MATRIX mpeg

@rockas

The source is ok.

HC is beta.

So try another encoder and look if it runs fine.....

Also switch to latest releases (DVD-RB-PRO), let's be fair, it's just a small fee for an excellent programm.

That way you get the latest versions of all encoders also, inluding HC.

I strongly suggest to 'buy' the PRO version, that's making you a 'VIP', and more importantly enables you to use the full version.

If you have enough disk space, try to empty recycle bin (especially using Norton sh.t) and check youre setup paths.

Despite non-overclocking, every little instability of youre system is potentially able to crash encoders, as they even do not survive a system that has thorouhly checked with 'system burnin testing software'.

If I even overclock my athlon XP 3000+ about 3% on my asus main-board it's going to leave me with 0-size M2v files.....

CCE just gives up....

Maybe that counts for HC also....

and never never do crossposting, although I was not aware of it, but moderators are seeing it all !!! (although JDOBBS is one of the kindest moderators...:D :D )

I started off with HC 15 moved on to 16a beta because I thought the dropped frames would disappear. Neither of them works with me.

As for the suggestion to buy the PRO version, if the free version does'nt work you don't expect me to dish out extra money on sheer belief and/or hope. Or do you?

Befor I do start any conversion I empty the bin, reboot, turn off any virus-scan software ......, but ......

have you tried it on QuEnc mode?

 Here's the bottom line: No one else is reporting this problem -- at least not in any way consistent with what you're reporting. That points to a system problem -- either in its configuration or some other instability. There are thousands of copies (probably tens of thousands) of HC encoder working all over the world.

As a search of this forum will confirm -- if a problem with DVD-RB is discovered, I fix it. But problems that happen to one person on one computer are not typically intrinsic to the software but to the environment upon which they are run.... and I'm sorry, but this just doesn't seem to be happening anywhere else.

@ jdobbs

I can see your point. However, there might have been an easy solution just round the corner I did not see, you know, but probably not......

@ Rockas

I will try QuEnc.

At least if you try with QuEnc it will help establish where the problem is.

You are pointing to HCBatch.exe when you're doing the encodes, right?

You don't have dropped frames , you do have completely dropped segments !!!

Zero size M2V files.

Again try another encoder.

Even try a different source.....

And finally try a different hardware platform.....

I have a bit trust the last recommendation can be of great importance...

Also set youre BIOS to the most slowest options. I don't know what kind of BIOS you have, but even some 'normal' settings are overclocked settings.

And in my experience the ATHLON 3000+ XP is very sensitive to either power supply and clock speed.

There must be something wrong there, not concerning DVD-RB.

If you use freeware, don't complain....

However that's definitely NOT the problem here......

DVD-RB is not DVDSHRINK !!! and should not be used with an attitude like that.

Do a new installtion from scratch.

Try experiment and find the problem !!

Sure you have one.

I don't like HC , but it always worked.

Otherwise spend $58 on CCE basic.

Want high quality ????

It's going to cost something..... even money.....

As you get more experienced you just need more tools probably.

If you want no trouble and low quality for no costs at all, try using DVDSHRINK and don't complain.

QuEnc doesn't work either. After about 15 min everything freezes and the only thing left to do is to switch off the pc.

I deleted DVD-RB, run a registry cleaner, installed everything new - same as before.

No, I will not get a new machine because this is the only software that doesn't work properly, all others work fine.

But thanx anyway.

Taurus50, is your machine overclocked? (Just wanted to eliminate this as a factor.)

That is reealllyyyy bad.. this software even in a worst case, even if it were TRYING to on purpose, should not be able to lock up your pc so bad you have to cut it off. something is very wrong.

Well.. i suppose we wont ask you to then :) .. but please do not blame the software.. the other 99.99% of us are not just lucky.

Taurus50 - wow that is bad. there must be something seriously funky with that system. may i suggest you go and read this thread
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=54130
and run some of the tools mentioned ? it would be interesting to know if they turned up anything aswell.

@ vikas_lk - No, it is not.

@ Trahald - Yes, I am the unlucky one :(

@ dragongodz - It looks like a lot of work .... but thank you, I'll try my very best
