It's on purpose. Images in signatures, and signatures longer than 200 characters are no longer allowed.

200 chars is quite small... 2-3 links and it's full :(

@Doom9
Hi!
If not already done, you might want to consider limiting the size of, or eliminating entirely, unnecessary animated graphics included in the body of postings...

If not already done, you might want to consider limiting the size of, or eliminating entirely, unnecessary animated graphics included in the body of postings...I'm afraid that's not so simple. While the size of images posted on this board is size limited, and needs moderator approval, we can't do anything about externally linked images (except a mod editing the thread to take out the link). And as far as animated vs non animated goes, the board has no way of knowing which is which.
200 chars is quite small... 2-3 links and it's full So? If you need more, then in my eyes you have a problem. I don't see the need for a signature anyway, so that's why I singificantly cut it down now.

Just a question: would it be possible to limit the size in Kb of the linked images?
I have a 6mbit ethernet so I'm ok, but I think of all those who haven't a fast connection.

If you have a very long URL try tinyurl.com to make it more compact.

Just a question: would it be possible to limit the size in Kb of the linked images? Not without hacking the board code. But you could always configure your browser to not load images, or supposedly also not load images linked from other sites.

I approve of the reduced signatures because it does make reading the boards more efficient.
If someone wants to tell about something or provide several links, then they could always make a webpage with that information and provide a link to it in their sig.

I don't see the need for a signature anyway, so that's why I singificantly cut it down now. Why do you have one then ?? :D
Seriously though, you won't hear me complain about this. Forums that allow users too much leeway in .sigs usually end up looking like crap and really tacky. Howard Forums comes to mind...
I do like the .sig feature that DSLReports has (their software is home-grown though): A user's .sig doesn't show up unless their post is longer than their .sig
So, if someone replies with "Yeah, me too", their 100-character .sig doesn't show. They do have a character limit on them also as well as no images.

Why do you have one then ?? Because so many people are oblivious to the fact that I run a site. Yes, there are very unflattering things to be said about such people, but I can't change the fact that it still is so.

"glad I used search"
Anyway I was wondering if the board counts the [url] tag as all the chars in tag count as a chars towards the 200? Or does it only count displayed chars?

I dont care about images, but I can no more update the links in my sign! Either I have to keep the outdated links, or i have to delete more than 2000 characters of my sign! :( Btw, imo the limit should only apply for the displayed text, and not for tags etc. Example: My current sign has 2776 characters but only 332 are displayed...
EDIT: Reduced the links in my sign from 33 to 2 now!

Btw, imo the limit should only apply for the displayed text, and not for tags etc. The board can't make the difference. And your 33 links is nothing more but excessive squared. You should consider yourself lucky that the board doesn't automatically cut off existing signatures.

Go to howardforums.com and see how BAD things are there since they allow images in signatures. I'm all for not allowing them. Good thing for Firefox and image blocking.... :D
