for some reason bitrate viewer won't open my avs file it works in wmp. I'm trying to find out the overall bitrate of this DVD but since it's in multiple VOBs I tried to use avisynth make it seem like one long file.

avisynth exports uncompressed video and cannot be queried about the imported videos' bitrates. You'd be better off using an MPEG editor to concatenate them first then check that, or just take an average of all the same-size vobs to get close enough.

Hi-
If by overall bitrate you mean video, audio, subs and overhead together, then DVD Bit Rate Viewer can get it in graphical form with the DVD in the drive:

If you mean only the video bitrate for the whole thing on the hard drive, then I know of no other way then first extracting the M2V for the entire film with DGIndex or PGCDemux.
