I have a nagging question concerning DVD Rebuilder. Why is it that when you backup a movie that is for example 5.5gb that the reduction rate for it to fit a DVD-5 is something akin to 85%? But a 7.6gb movie says the reduction rate is just 41%. For some reason it seems like that should be the other way around. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

:confused:

the % that is given is the % of size compared to original.. meaning a 16 gb source (2 xdvd) to fit on dvd5 would be maybe 15% reduction

Maybe you're thinking of it backwards? Not 85% reduction but 85% of original size?

exactly 100% would be no compression at all.. and gobama. please edit the topic to something more descriptive than 'Help, please'.. perhaps.. 'question about reduction percentage' would be better. and welcome to the forum

I have a nagging question concerning DVD Rebuilder. Why is it that when you backup a movie that is for example 5.5gb that the reduction rate for it to fit a DVD-5 is something akin to 85%? 4.7gb (DVD original size) divided by 5.5gb = .85. Convert that to a percentage, move the decimal (2) places, and you get .... 85%.
But a 7.6gb movie says the reduction rate is just 41%. Your numbers don't work for that one. Are you sure you've got the right ones ?? Is the movie itself 7.6gb or is that the entire DVD ?? Are you manipulating the extras at all ??

@gobama05

Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 9: use a proper thread title. Thank you.

Sure, I will be sure next time to make the topic more descriptive than "help, please." Also, thanks for the welcome to the forum. Hmmm, I am doing the entire dvd and leaving the extras as they are on the original disc.

@Hallway

You have to subtract the constants from both sides of the equation. Audio, subpictures, menus, and some smaller VTSs may not be reduced.

For example... if you had a source that had several LPCM tracks and you decided to keep them all -- you may find that the LPCM alone covers almost the entire 4.37GB available on the output disc and virtually nothing is left for video.
