View Full Version : Preview/edit - stupid newbie question

First, I've honestly read through all of the stickies for DVD-RB and didn't run across an explanation.

Can someone explain to me or point me to an explanation on using the Preview/Edit tab ?? Also, how do I know what VTS_01 and so on are in regards to parts of the DVD ?? Are they the different extras, previews, etc ?? I can't "play" them in order to see what they are. I can figure out that the previews are titles 4-8, for example, but can't relate that back to the VTS entries.

Does no one use this part of the program ??

If I've missed a FAQ entry or a guide somewhere about this, just point me to it.... I *try* not to ask stupid or common questions. :D

you waited a whole 16 hours (overnight) for a response????

when you open the preview tab, and click on an entry, it plays. At the moment there are no fast forward controls

I patient.... Would you rather I *bump* my post every 10 minutes ?? :D

I would have thought it would be something simple like that. But, when I click on any of the items in the list, NOTHING HAPPENS (1). Do I need to configure a video player somewhere ?? Right-clicking an entry also came to mind as well as clicking an entry and then opening the menu (the menu that is normally grayed out 'til you either "Prepare" or you choose the Preview/Edit tab).

(1) What does happen is that my desktop background is overlayed in that window or if I have an app window behind DVD-RB, that section of the app is shown in the preview window. I think this is something jdobbs might need to comment on.... Video card driver problem ??

there have been other threads on the video preview issue and i believe it was a video driver issue.

I think I found one of them... http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92439

I'm on page 6 of that thread and no clear solution yet.... :( I see mention of uninstalling SVCD2DVD but "Rockas" has that installed and has no problem. I don't have it installed at all so....

Daemon Tools is also a possible culprit, which I do have installed. Of course, I'm only up to July 2005.

Others uninstall application "A" and it starts working... Others have that same app still installed and never had the problem... Argghh ! :)

Looks like I'll be trying this:

MCI_LONG_NAME=1

As well as uninstalling various apps and possibly reinstalling AVISYNTH and DVD-RB. I saw a thread about a newer version of AVISYNTH. What's recommended to use, the latest/current (non-beta) version or the one that ships with DVD-RB ?? Safe to say that the one included is *sure* to work, eh ?? In fact, I think I'll uninstall AVISYNTH and let DVD-RB install what it wants.

K-Lite was the issue for me. Also, I think MCI_LONG_NAME=1 is included as default now.

Yes it's the default now. This sure sounds like a drive issue to me... either that or something has mucked up your MCI dlls.

I have *no* MCI_LONG_NAME in my rebuilder.ini file. The first version of DVD-RB I ever used was the free one, in the .96 range. I bought the Pro version not long after that and rec'd 1.05.1 as my first. So I don't have an "old" rebuilder.ini file laying around...

Just added it and tried it and .... no luck.

My video card is a GeForce3 Ti200; video driver is v81.85 (the latest or almost the latest).

Attached is what it frequently shows... If it's not the window 'behind', it shows my desktop background or 'black'.

I just uninstalled AVISYNTH and DVD-RB (Pro). I went to the leftover DVD-RB directory and tried to play 'current.avs' using WMP and was unable to. Is that because AVISYNTH is gone ??

Re-installed DVD-RB Pro and it prompted me to install AVISYNTH, so I let it. Still no preview in the window though...

Also checked my rebuilder.ini file and I do NOT have the "MCI" entry.

I can play 'current.avs' with WMP now.

Running 'sfc /scannow' at the moment...

Still trying things....

sfc /scannow did it's thing but doesn't tell you if it does anything apparently. After it was done, no preview shows.

Uninstalled "Real Alternative Player" (think that's the name) and still nothing.

Uninstalled nVidia v81.85 drivers, rebooted. When XP re-started, before I installed the newest drivers, v81.89, I tried DVD-RB while XP was using it's default VGA or SVGA drivers. Again, still no preview. After installing v81.89, still no preview.

Where do I start fixing things in case "something has mucked up your MCI dlls" ??

could it be the old directx? try upgrading that (this is just a wild guess).

According to jdobbs in the thread linked above, DVD-RB's preview should show up with a fresh install of XP. I take it that means that it doesn't require any "new" version of DirectX.

Talk about frustrating as hell !! It's working now.... I checked it after everything I did and nothing. What's the only thing I did since then ?? No way it's related... Nero was giving me a "dvd-video reallocation" error, so I told DVD-RB to create an ISO image and rebuilt it. While the ISO is burning and before I deleted the "work" files for that image, I decided to check it one more time. The first VTS was selected and since it's a rather large one, close to 400mb, I thought to try a smaller one in case it takes a couple of seconds to buffer it up. No need to as a still appeared in the window ... and then faded into the video clip.

Oh well, I'll know what to do next time this happens !!! Not !!!
