I ripped a few episodes of a TV series, edited and converted to DivX okay.
Unfortunately I deleted the mpeg2 original files and I would like to revisit my editing. Is there a program like Womble or VideoRedo that will accept a 700meg DivX file and allow you to do a bit of simple cutting, top and tailing, without re-encoding and as quick as Womble can do with mpeg files?

Netmask, I moved your question into its own thread, since it was unrelated to the subject.

I'm not aware of any editors that will let you cut on other-than-keyframes without reencoding. As you may have 300 frames (or more) between keyframes, keyframe cutting may not be useful.

Thanks for that - I guess all I can do is convert it back to mpeg and use Womble - yuk.... i just want to cut off the first 30 seconds...

Converting back *is* reencoding.

You may or may not find a keyframe at the correct frame -- but you can quickly check to see if there's a keyframe at the right spot or not using VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod, and if its at the right spot, the same tool can be used to edit the content. If you use the Video...Direct Stream Copy menu command, when you save a new .avi file, no re-encoding will be made.

Many thanks - I downloaded and installed the program and am picking my way through it. Checked the help forum item.
I loaded the file - details as follows.
File : 644 MB (644 MB), duration: 0:49:28, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 69 %
Video : 599 MB, 1693 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 720*416 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio : 45 MB, 129 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

VDub reported an error with the audio being vbr and ther would be a skew - there was! otherwise I was able to cut the opening intro off exactly as needed. Clearly I will have to study up on this program which is quite new for me.

Basically the series were from digital TV converted to DivX using AutoGK but using the Xvid codec option. All 13 eps are 700 meg each. I should have cut the intro's off whilst they were in MPEG format (used Womble for editing demuxed tracks derived from ProjectX).

I will press on and try to see if I can solve this "skew" problem.

Fortunately there is a key frame exactly after the Station intro and the before the film start in black on all 13 eps. So if I can solve the sound problem without complicating the whole process too much I should be able to complete the project quickly.

Success! I used Nandub and it worked. I'm feeling pleased with myself as I approach my 68th birthday - the brain cells are working even after New Years Eve naughtiness....
