Sorry for the newbie-type question, but I am one...

I recorded a Christmas special on TV, removed the commercials and burned it onto DVD.

Now, I'd like to take the songs and separate them and remove the rest of the talking/garbage to make an audio CD.

I used DGIndex (or was it BeSweet - I don't remember) to separate audio from a DVD. I'd like to take that big audio file and remove talking parts and also split up the songs on it to make an audio CD. What software would I use to accomplish this?

Yes, I did search the forum but only found cutters for video.....maybe that's what I should have done first?

Well, this is a video, forum, you'd have a lot more success searching hydrogen audio. Nonetheless, editing audio is easy. One option is to use avisynth's audio processing capabilities, though that can be pretty laborous. I own soundforge, which has built-in tools for this, but any wav editor (even something as awkward as windows sound editor, but there's good freeware out there, like Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)) can do it with some effort. When you decode from ac3 (if that's what it's in) make sure you convert it to 44100 Hz first for CD.

I still use Cool Edit 96, which is still easily found in Shareware form. It's very simple for such a task since you can see the entire waveform.
