GMC is "Global Motion Compensation." It's meant to improve the overall encoding quality, especially in parts in the video with complicated/fast motion. Whether it really improves quality much or not, that's up to you to decide. As far as I've tested and according to the general comments here, it usually offers little, if any quality improvement. Note that GMC increases the complexity of the video so decoding it will require more CPU time, and it's not supported in most hardware players.

And don't expect to play XviD encodes with GMC in "any" prospective stand-alone player.... as they will not work :)

not only decoding also encoding will take a really big hit with nearly no improvement @ all
yeah normaly it should be supported by every decoder but Standalone Manufactures said no we won't to big hit in our Soc Design for nothing so most players only support GMC with 1 Warppoint and that is really useless.
Its a really widely abondoned tool for good reason, it ads more complexity than any quality so stay away from it :P

ok shon3i i assume your just after a recomendation for some settings.
I can tell you that when encoding video without resizing and setting the par i normally use the default settings apart from i change the following:
I enable vhq for bframes
set vhq for p frames to vhq4
finaly set the minimum quants for all frame types to 2.
But thats just what i use and it wont be fast.
