I was able to access the site. The program is a 16MB program. Pretty large. It seems to do a lot.

I'm going to try to use it later.

Is it free?
If it uses x264 it has to be free because of the GNU General Public Licence.

Am I missing something here?

If it uses x264 it has to be free because of the GNU General Public Licence.x264 is external as well as the bundeled softs. The GUI can be closed source and payware if it's not using GNU source code.

I'm not keen on the way it phones home every time it's run (in fact it fails to run on my system and I'm certainly not giving it unrestricted net access just to check it out).

The x264 version that's bundled with it is svn-341: a bit out-of-date, but it's easy for a user to fix that. Does anyone know what it uses to encode AAC?

Doesn't startup on my computer. When I run Super.exe nothing happens...

last time I downladed a version of SUPER (couple of weeks ago), I could only choose the bitrate among a list of predefined wierd values (I might be confusing with another app though ...)

*will try it again in a near future*

tried it, didnt like it. sticking with MeGUI.

Super does not provide any sort of % status bars. I have no way of knowing where am I at in my encodes in case I need to break one off and dont know how much longer I am looking at.

Riiiiight!

Also this isnt primarily a x264 encoding front end but more of converter for all kind of files for people who cant be bothered to understand a dozen of programs and parameters just to convert a mpg/vob to avi or mp4 for use in mobile devices etc.

I don't know if i'd use it for my dvd to avi or vice versa, but it is great for encoding videos for your phone. I've been messing around with it and I am very pleased with the quality. Plus it gives me a simple way to encode xvid in a 3gp container without having to deal with mp4box myself. My only problem with it limits you to the preset options. If they implement some more advanced options, or at least give you the option to enter your own values it will be perfect.
