I apologize in advance if this topic has been addressed earlier. I spent about 10 minutes searching for xvid, vobsub, aspect ratio issues and found nothing useful. My problem is this:

Whenever I play an avi with embedded aspect ratio information that does not have subtitles everything works fine. The image is stretched as expected. If I add a subtitle file (.sub/idx or a .srt) aspect ratio signalling stops working. The filters used when decoding is the Xvid decoder and the DirectVobSub filter.

Anyone experienced the same problem?

This may not be an XviD issue at all but I'm posting it here because I don't know where else to post it.

The player I'm using is MPC 6.4.8.2

When I look in the DirectVobSub options it appears like DirectVobSub can't handle what you want to do. You can however try to contact Gabest if nobody answers here, I'm much interested in it as well.

I'm bumping this thread since I have yet to find a solution to this and am wondering if anyone else has in the last year or so?

Hmmm...

I don't encounter any AR display issues when playing the following sources in MediaPlayer Classic with FFdshow's MPEG-4 decoder filter: -
MPEG-4 video (with ARS) in .AVI and Embedded VOBsubs.
MPEG-4 video (with ARS) in .AVI and External VOBsubs.
MPEG-4 video (with ARS) in .MP4 and Embedded SRT substitles.
MPEG-4 video (with ARS) in .MP4 and External SRT substitles.

The only time I encounter an AR display issue (like the one you describe) is when playing the following source in MediaPlayer Classic with Xvid's MPEG-4 decoder filter: -
MPEG-4 video (with ARS) in .MP4 and Embedded SRT substitles.

Cheers
