I like to use FFDShow to decode all my stuff, but since installing 6.1 its took it upon itself to use its own decoder, how do i disable it?

Thanks.

You're right. FFDshow doesn't override it. I really don't know how this works. Possibly a new build of ffDshow will take care of this.

regsvr32 /u divxdec.ax

go to the commandline and type "regsvr32 /u divxdec.ax", that disables the divx decoder for good.

@edit: bah, somebody beat me to the punch.

The other option is to go to the decoder configuration utility and turn off the option to "Support Generic MPEG-4". This way DivX will only decode DivX. This is also a component option during installation of the DivX bundle.

I think newer builds of FFDShow still override our decoder (last I checked), the purpose was to override the older builds of FFDShow that are still very commonplace and have problems decoding various DivX and XVID streams. We used to get a million and one complaints about green screens, smudged playback, and so forth.

Use GSpot 2.52 Beta 1 and set filter merit of the DivXDec.ax to MERIT PREFERRED

That doesn't work. I installed two days ago DivX 6.1 and I swear I will never use DivX again. I hate when I install some codec that overrides all the codecs I already have.:P

I tried disabling "Support Generic MPEG-4" but then, my Xvid encodes don't play, not even ffdshow loads, so I can't select multiple audio stream inside the AVI; I tried re-installing Xvid and FFDshow, I tried setting the proper decoder for Xvid in FFDshow configuraton tab, but none of that worked.

I will try now unregistering divxcodec.ax and if not, I will uninstall DivX for good now that I have a good reason to get rid of that doom.

EDIT: Nah, it didn't work either... "Divx Settings Manager" keeps loading instead ffdshow but now, seeing as divx decoder is unregistered, it hungs my computer... I can't guess why DivX 6.1 avoids some other filters to load.......
I have uninstalled Divx 6.1 and all is fine again! :D

To those who have the same problem than I had and aren't willing to get rid of DivX 6.1, you have to do:

regsvr32.exe /u DivxMedia.ax
