Hi,
With the developpement of GUIs covering all aspects of the encoding process ( MeGUI, StaxRip... ), and allowing to use several codecs, I wonder if it is not time to open a new forum dedicated to these one. Because I really find threads like 'No sound with MeGui' ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=757224#post757224 ) out of place in the AVC forum, yet I understood why it is posted there : no other dedicated forum.
I wonder what the other users & the staff think of that ?

I had my own forum once. Beside spam nothing much on it :(
also, there are too much apps out there to cover. Maybe more stickies could help or a FAQ.

I know it's not welcomed, but I'd like to *bump* that thread, in the light of the recent increase of the posting rate in the AVC. I really find the MeGui, StaxRip, RealAnime threads out of place.

I wouldn't mind the StaxRip topic being moved to the general forum as that is the forum for anything not fitting in a dedicated forum and that seems to be case for StaxRip.

megui is being used by 95+% of all users for x264 encoding.. so it doesn't seem so out of place at all.

Where did you get that info? Seems a lot exagerated to me :p

Seems a lot exagerated to meNo reports whatsoever from anybody using any of the other codecs? The fact that megui is bundled with the major sources of x264 builds?
the fact that the second most popular codec supported (xvid) has issues when used in mencoder, and encraw turned out to be completely unusable as of now?

The fact that megui is bundled with the major sources of x264 builds? It's not because it's bundeled that people use it. People can download the x264 build to get VFW version, or the CLI to update their favorite GUI.

Give me a few days and I tell you the exact number ;)

just to make it clear: my statement says "of all megui users, 95% primarily use it for x264 encoding", not of all x264 users, 95% use megui as a GUI.. those are completely different things. The second statement would be outright preposterous.. nobody can claim a 95% market share (well okay, perhaps NeroDigital has a 95% usage ratio from Recode2 and the rest from Nero Vision)

I'll also be bumping this thread. It's ridiculous with all the threads for the GUIs. Just make a subforum for them, it can't be that difficult. Don't just brush us off :( It's impossible to track what's going on in the topic and if you create your own topic for it you get the usual :readrule: :readguid: It's hard finding info that's RELEVANT to the other 95% who don't understand these things.

To continue further down the path : what I appreciated with GK forum separated from XviD & DivX was that a clear distinction was made between pure GUI issues and codec issues. The user had, before choosing the forum, to think whether or not his issue was more related to the GUI than to the codec or not.
That led imho to more constructed posts, definitely more constructed anyway than what happens currently on the AVC forum.

well.. the forum exists now, and I do expect from anybody who asked for it that they help guide people towards the right forum.. it's not going to be easy because some of these GUIs go much further than GKnot ever did, and there are a lot of issues that come down as one and have to go the other way (e.g. encoding aborts.. turns out it's not the GUI but the codec, and the reverse).

Indeed, thank you very much. and there are a lot of issues that come down as one and have to go the other wayTrue. But some aren't, and one can hope than recurrent problems will be more easily identified.
