View Full Version : Scenarist - Audio in still menu

I have an introductory still menu for my DVD and was hoping to add some music that would play. Scenarist says you can't do this. Seems you can only add an audio track to a movie file. Is this the case? Thanks.

In Scenarist still menu tracks cannot contain audio streams. If you want a menu track to contain an audio stream, you must create it as a slide show track.

Thanks for the reply. Further question. I currently have two still menus that switch back and forth between each other when selecting menu options. It is not using a subpicture to do this but physical images. If I wanted to add audio by changing these to slide shows, the audio would restart each time I selected the other slide show right? Is there any way to assign a single audio track that plays continuously between the two slide shows I would be navigating between?

No - not possible

GPRM-Register huh? Just when I thought I was getting a decent grasp on DVD authoring and all the ins and outs, here comes something I've not heard of before. Very interested in learning though. Is there any good pointers describing GPRM Registers so I can get a better grasp how to store data in them and possibly do as you are describing? Thanks.

Thanks for the info on GPRM. The more I read up on this, the more it seems like it may be possible except for the fact that I can not find a single reference on how to get the current Time Code to set a GPRM registry value in the first place. Closest I found was some reference from Microsoft on WebDVD's or something with a command DVDTimeCode2bstr however this is some Microsoftism and didn't seem to have any value to my prediciment.

You could do this with angles. You can change between the two menus seemlessly as two angles.

You could do this with angles

Multi angles are not allowed in Menu Domain - only in Title Domain

That is very true, but why not have them in the title area. I know it'll start to cause issues with resume etc, but it's still possible.

but it's still possible

Stills with angles - never seen before - very interested in doing that :-)

You'd need to encode the stills as video clips the duration of the audio, but as their stills, they'll encode at a very low bitrate!

Do you have a small example you can upload somewhere?

Dont know how to handle different subpictures for Button over video.

I don't have an example for you right now, but you can check out these 2 DVD's which use the same technology that I'm talking about:

Very interesting thought this one. Even if Scanarist wont permit this on a menu of everykind, u can still do it with putting the stills that will be encoded as mpeg video having identical gop structures on a track and work the menu as botton over video. :)

Absolutly. You can encode all the still menus that are needed, and have them as different angles. Then when you select another menu from the main menu, all it has to do is change angles. Thus keeping a seemless audio track throughout the whole menu structure.

I think it is more tricky - you forgot the highlight subpicture for BOV - only one possible for all angles

Just ordered Incubus DVD at amazon - will take a look and research

Highlight is not a problem if you somehow can go around users with mouse, it's just a matter of button placement so you can have the same subpic with all the buttons in different places.. Problem is that if you execute a button command you'll loose that highlight and that's kinda kills the whole idea.. One thing that can be done is to use "animated" subpic for buttons, well, 1 frame/2 sec (so Scenarist won't bitch about hli placed to closely to other one), but in average you'll still have to wait like 1 sec for the highlights for the other menu to appear, kinda looks silly..

This is a tuff nut.. :D

@dgoodbourn

Just checked the Incubus-DVD

but this is only an adaptation from Matrix 1 - follow the white rabbit.

btw this concert rocks :D

No, this is nothing like the Matrix idea, although that's a good idea. :)

Basically this is assigning 2 commands to one button. Each angle uses a different command for the same button.
