I just tested x264 and megui with a 4m 30s video using the profile "1P-Goodquality" and here is what happened.

15mb avi(divx, mp3) converted to 33mb mp4(h264, no audio) encoded at 7fps took ~20 minutes. What is so great about this h264?

coz you DID NOT SET THE BITRATE!!!

Instructions
Install x264-Full package (builds by other ppl are not assured to work with some profiles). The profiles are now included in the package.
Fire up MeGUI-x264 and you will find the profiles in the "Video Profiles" drop down list. Before starting encoding set the bitrate or quantizer (manually or thru the calculator) and adjust the inloop filter accordingly to your needs/taste: keep it 1;1 or higher for anime/toons (max 3;3) and not higher than x264 defaults (0;0) for movies.

At least you own up to it unlike some that just fly off the handle. Dont sweat it, I didthe same my first time I used MeGUI. Been very happy ever since. :)
