Hi, I hope this hasntn't been covered, but I looked around and couldn't find anything quite like my problem. I had an avi file about a week ago and when I played it in windows media it was really scratchy and distorted so I thought I would mess about with it in virtualdub and that just made it sound like it was underwater, and it also made the run-time appear about twice as long. So I messed around with codecs and did some system restores, and then realised I just had to change the audio channels. That worked but since then, it has been really up and down sometimes virtualdub will create normal audio and with some files it creates the underwater sound. Just before all this started I installed windows media 10, could that have anything to do with it? Also sometimes when I press volume control it wont let me use it and says something about mixer devices. The compression on the bad files is always franhoffer IIS MPEG layer 3 codec, but it also sometimes works ok. Sorry if its a bit confusing, and thanks in advance for any help

Do this step-wise.

If running Windows XP, do a "reversion."

If you can't, then remove WMP 10.

Report damage.

Sorry, but, WMP 10 has problems.

Good luck.
