Just wondering, is x264 being included in the codec comparison this year? By the sounds of it, it's not being included because it has no VFW componant... but i thought it did? Did i misunderstand doom9's conclusion from his writeup after the qualification round for the codec comparison?

I believe x264 and Ateme was given a free pass to the main round due to their performance last year. I believe the first round is only the qualifying round.

:p at Apple being DQ'd.

Ah right, what confused me was the FAQ thats linked to at the end of the conclusion:

Q6: Why didn't you test codec X?
...
...
Thus I feel that for codecs like x264, snow, etc. to become really popular, they need their own VFW codec that is actively developed. At least in the case of x264, there is actually a VFW encoder that is no longer actively developed and it's sad to see that external offers to maintain and update that encoder have not even received an answer.
....
....

From that, i thought that x264 wasn't going to be tested. Obviously i was just confused :p

Still, kudos to apple for making their encoder rediculously hard to use! w00t!

afaik x264 wasn't tested last year, but i'm sure it will be included in the second round.
