Use MeGUI or RealAnime or whatever.

I use megui all the time, with mp4 outputs. My goal atm is to put x264 into avi container (with mp3 - don't think aac can be put into avi), but haven't been successful muxing raw x264 into an avi container. I have no experience with command line, don't know even how to access properly let alone input the proper commands, and there are no newbie guides. This is the reason I wanted to use gknot (so it would do it for me - hoped).

If you (or anyone) can point me to a idiot proof set of directions for avc (x264) to avi usage (idiot proof) - I would be appreciative.

Why would you want to use avi as a container? It is possible to put aac in avi by the way. Makes about as much sense as AVC though.

for a couple friends that want to play avi on their standalones

I am not aware of any standalones that support AVC in an avi container. In fact are there any out yet with AVC support? If so then surely they would support mp4 anyway.

standalones that play AVI doesn't playback every codec inside AVI... mostly divx and mp3.

Thanks Sirber, a friend of mine is able to get an avc (mp4) to play on his standalone using: .(APP) WinAVI_Video_Converter.exe, not sure about the details of how exactly.

My goal is to just put an avc into avi container to check out its playback if only on my pc
