Audio issues with several movies

The volume of the audio keeps jumping from very high to very low (barely audible) despite what the set volume level is. The audio codec i am using is the ac3filter, and this seems to happen with several movies, namely LOTR:FOTR, Batman Returns (1992), and Better Luck Tomorrow. Is there a special setting i can configure the codec to better optimize the audio results?

Try disabling "One-pass norm" and/or "Auto gain control" ("Mixer" label).
Use instead fix "Master-Gain" for amplify, and enable DRC to reduce the Dynamic Range ("Main" label)
