do i need to update AGk with the latest virtualdubmod and DGMPGDec and other apps that come with it or just run it straight as is.

No need to update. Whatever bundled will work fine as is. However, even if you update, there is no harm.

Don't upgrade them - or if you do, backup the directory first. The reason is that AGK is made to work with the version installed, and may not work correctly with newer versions (as it hasn't been tweaked to).

I backed up the virtualdub directory and installed 1.61, mostly it was okay, but I did get a couple of times when it "hung" - downgrading back to the original version solved the hanging problem.

If you REALLY need the latest virtualDub, maybe you need to go with Gordion Knot which works fine with it.
