I asked that a year ago and never got a response. I hear they are more likely to respond if you donate. ;)

Changing the nick on all existing posts is difficult, so I assume that's why it is not done. If it's that important to you, register under a new nick and then inform an administrator to please delete your previous nick.

Why "Atamido" of course (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=517809#post517809).

Changing the nick on all existing posts is difficultActually, that's not the case since the post table only contains the userid. But why should we bother just because you feel like having another name? And then half a year from now again and again, and multiply that by all users and you're going to be pretty busy.

I ask that, cause it's my translator nickname for softwares that i translate of english to french...it will be more easy for me that's all. But if it's impossible it's not a problem...

Perhaps you could make a rule for only once ever 3 years? :p
For me personally, I picked my nick back before the internet when I was on BBS. Back then a collision was unlikely due to the limited scope. But once the internet became widely used, collisions became common. Around a year and a half ago I decided to change my nick to something unique. After great consideration, I picked "Atamido". Google showed no use of the word, and so I switched my accounts over. The only chance of a new nick change now is some dramatic, world changing event, like the internet.
As an aside, the only collision I've had so far is a misspelling of a Japanese word "atamidaido", which might be "atama ii da yo" which means "you're smart". I think I can live with that.
