View Full Version : AVI2DVD: Double Speed Audio Issue

I'm having problems converting a couple of avi files to DVD. Basically, the resulting audio is twice as fast as it should be (i.e half the length it should be). Here's an example log:

Any idea what's causing the problem?

Mono audio?
If the audio is in mono this somethimes happens. Convert it to stereo in VDubMod

According to VDubMod, the audio of the avi is stereo. However the Encoded_audio_1.mp2.wav file produced during the encoding process is mono. Any idea what could be causing this problem?

No. That's a new one on me. The solution will be to extract it to a stereo wave file with VDubMod, add the wave file as a new stream and disable the original audio. Set Video mode to Direct Stream Copy and save the AVI. Convert from the new AVI and it should be fine.

No idea what's causing it though. As long as it's just a one-off with one particular AVI just work round it. If it happens regularly there may be an issue.

This is a very old post, but I've had this same problem and I have some clues to it. It's clear that madplay.exe is producing the mono file. I worked around this problem when I had it by re-processing the audio while the video encoding was proceeding. I simply issued the madplay and besweet commands by hand. However, I used the -S switch in the madplay command. This forces madplay to believe that the input file is stereo. Apparently, madplay is supposed to automatically recognize that the input file is stereo. As this only happens to me occasionally, I assume that the real problem is with the AVI file. I tried the "the trick with VDubMod" described in the "Problems specific to AVI's" sticky, but that didn't fix the problem. Nevertheless, I think that the problem is with the AVI file.

I get this problem occasionally also. Generally its when the audio is Mono but also can also be when stereo. Also happens when the sample rate of the audio is not 44.1 or 48 khz. Madplay is definitely the problem as its the generated WAV file produced by Madplay that the problem first appears in.

Solution for me: I just manually fix the audio by loading the extracted *.mpa file into Goldwave, save out as Normalized Stereo 48khz WAV file, then manually convert to AC3 with ffMPEGGui.
