Hi

This is my first post to this site. What I would like to know is how do I export an mpg2 from Virtual Dub to AutoGK? I can successfully edit my videos with Vdub and I have no probs with AGK but when I try to export an edited video from Vdub the only options I seem to have are; save as an un-compressed avi = huge file! or save as a divx etc. I would like to be able to export edited mpeg2 and choose which application to compress with. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but until last week I'd only ever used Dr DivX.

Cheers

I don't believe VirtualDub can save in MPEG-2. To maintain optimal quality you may want to save as uncompressed AVI rather than DivX.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought, only problem is huge file sizes (like 5gig for just a few minutes) started running out of space on my 250gig drive halfway through a 1hour 30 minute movie! So I guess its back to good ole Google.

There are some editing tools for MPEG-2 that may do the job for you, such as Cuttermaran or ChopperXP.

Or if you do decide to save it as uncompressed, don't use VDub's uncompressed AVI. I use Lagarith which only consumes 17-18 GB per hour. Or you can use HuffYUY which will give larger file sizes, but encodes to something else more quickly.
