View Full Version : Problems with Madagascar DVD

Hello,

I am trying to backup Madagascar, and I've tried about three or four times with DVD2SVCD 1.2.3 b1; however, each time, the audio is always a few seconds off the video. I have tried backing up the DVD with and without subtitles, and the issue is always the same (the subtitles are also off). I am not really sure why this is happening, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've pasted the appropriate log files below.

Thank you.

How did you rip the original DVD to your HD ? Madagascar is the first to be copy protected with the new Macrovisions RipGuard so I've been informed. You need to use DVD Fab Decrypter or AnyDVD to actually rip to your HD first to be error free.

I ripped it several times with various different software, one of them being the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter. Same results each time.

In your BeSweet Log, this should NOT be happening, it should not be doing any re-sampling and is proabably the source of your problem.

Do you know what I can do to prevent that from happening? I usually do not have this issue backing up other DVDs ....

Thank you

I thought VCD audio had to be at 44100Hz not 48000 to be compliant with the VCD standard.

That is why shibatch is used.

Yes absolutely, sorry my mistake, somehow I missed that a VCD was being made :(

When I use to get a "many seconds" out of sync issue, it tended to be from an early part of the movie when the publishers intro was being shown and it actually had 0 audio, not audio with no volume. Sometimes removing the first chapter removed that unwanted section (I would use Smartripper on the already ripped files). If that doesnt fix the problem, then I would use MPEG2VCR to demux each MPG file, then remux back but applying the AV-Sync button to fix the sync issue. You may have to do this a few times to fix the problem, but it will work :)

Any luck with syncing Madagascar? 0ms is incorrect, but just out of testing and stuff I found that ChopperXP gives a -224ms once I've saved out. That gives good sync once I encoded that. However that was just a sample I was messing with, dunno if it applies to the whole movie, but yeah.

How do you use SmartRipper to remove the u nwanted section??

For what it's worth, I read in another forum (see http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=284666 )
that VTS_08_1.VOB is deliberately broken as part of the copy protection. Could this somehow be the cause of your problem? I'm just offering a suggestion since no one has posted a better idea.

Converting from 48 KHz to 44.1 KHz should NOT introduce a sync problem. I don't know why some people think this is some kind of big deal. The length of the 44.1 KHz audio file should be exactly the same as the 48 KHz one if the conversion is done correctly. Note that I said LENGTH (as in time) and I did NOT say SIZE.

I ripped it OK using the method outlined in this post
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56831

The ripped file does not have the audio sync problem. It's only when I convert it to a VCD.

Any further luck on the Madagascar DVD and DVD2SVCD? It fails the normal DVD2SVCD process (as documented above), but I guess I'm missing something obvious about the method to use DVD2SVCD once it's been successfully ripped to the hard drive. I can't seem to get DVD2SVCD to recognize the ripped files as a source. I used DVDFab Decrypter and when DVD2SVCD still wouldn't recognize the output, I tried running VobBlanker with the default settings (which I read elsewhere would correct some of the out of order stuff).

Am I missing something here? I'm pretty capable of following directions, but admit that I rely heavily on automated apps like DVD2SVCD for most of my encoding/conversions.

I appreciate any help, guidance, tips, etc.

Normally they are just Chapter 1, so when you rip out Movie only (File mode) from the already ripped DVD, just un-select Chapter 1.

@internetpilot, I'd suggest you re-rip just the movie only out with SmartRipper (with or without the first chapter) and go from there.

Just for interest, I simply ripped the R4 version of Madagascar with DVD Decrypter (with Check for Structual Protection turned on) and then used ReBuilder to shrink to dvdr size. Simple and worked. The R4 also had the new Macromedia copy protection on it :)

Thanks, I finally figured out what the heck I was doing. Actually, the problem was that I was overdoing. All I needed to do was use DVDFab Decrypter, and then run DVD2SVCD in file mode rather than DVD. I also needed to select VTS_08_1.vob. For some reason, I couldn't previously find where the movie only portion was. The longest video length I could find was 25 minutes.

Anyway, worked like a charm just with DVDFab Decrypter. And here I was thinking that Sony finally kicked our a$$. Thanks to everyone who recommended DVDFab Decrypter. Now the original DVD is safe while the kiddies beat up the SVCD.

I could never figure out the problem with Madagascar and DVD2SVCD. I ended up backing up the movie on a DVD. I am also having similar problems with Dark Water. I think it has something to do with the RipGuard/ArcCos protetection. You can strip it out, but it still messes with it somehow so that the audio does not synch up.

@rhpt

Hi!

For the "Madagascar" DVD, after ripping ALL files in "File" mode with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, load the ripped DVD "package" into VOBBlanker and simply press the "Process" button. The revised/"cleaned up" version of the files created by VOBBlanker will not create an audio/video synchronization problem when converted to VCD or SVCD (or any other format)...
