View Full Version : Removing ILVU?

I've got a troublesome movie, Troy, that just won't play in my favorite software DVD player (PowerDVD 6), yet it plays perfectly in everything else.

Apparently it uses ILVU for the very beginning of the movie where it has a short story prologue with text on screen. The text portions seem to be available in english and french. Obviously I don't need the french one, and I have a hunch this could be the reason that PowerDVD refuses to play it, even though it should.

I loaded it up in PGCEdit, and there seems to be two titles (Title 1 and Title 5) of roughly the same size with identical play times. Title 1 is English version, Title 5 is French. Loading it into DVD Shrink re-author shows that one title is 7.15Gb and the other is 7.20Gb. It's obviously not a 14Gb disc so I guess that's where ILVU plays its part.

My question: How can I safely remove all ILVU from the movie? I did a little tinkering around, thinking to try just blanking out the french title, but VOBBlanker doesn't seem to like ILVU movies. I'm also wary about changing the structure in PGCedit, since i'm afraid i'll meet with DVD standard problems by doing so. Any suggestions?

You can strip the angles (ILVU) out with IfoEdit.

Bigmo, it would be strange the angles would cause a problem with power dvd 6! I've watched many DVDs with angles with PowerDVD, and never had any problem. How did you rip the movie? What process did you use?

After playing around with DVD-RM most of the morning, before reading the replies here, I believe I managed to solve the problem by 'hiding' the second title in DVD-RM. Doing so appears to have just blanked out all of the cells in that title.

Surprisingly, it now plays in PowerDVD perfectly. I really didn't think blanking them out would fix it, but apparently it did. Perhaps DVD-RM automatically changed some other things to maintain compatibility when I did that, I don't know.

Jeanl, what's really strange is that PowerDVD won't play the movie from the original DVD either. I was surprised too since I figured PowerDVD was capable of handling multiangle/ilvu movies, although this was the first i've backed up. I sent some info about the problem to Cyberlink, since it seems to be an issue with the player and that specific movie. (I tried other software players and they had no problem with it)

Now to see if it still works after encoding in DVD-RB after the editing I did, so that I can make a functional backup...

ps: Thanks for the guide.. no wonder i couldn't find it, I was looking for ILVU instead of multiangle. Didn't know the procedure was the same for both!
