I know this is probably a stupid question but here it goes (I remembered about this after answering a question about TV Captures :)):

Is there a simple way of changing a MPEG 2 with 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 without re-encoding?

I never tried it but I guess that if I author it and then change the aspect ratio on the IFO files maybe I can cheat the player, am I right?

I'm asking this 'cause my Digital Camera has a 16:9 mode but the software that came with it just captures in 4:3 (MPG2).

You can change the flag without re-encoding with e.g Restream

then change the aspect ratio on the IFO files maybe I can cheat the player

yes - just change the attributes for the VTS in the ifo file with Pgcedit or Ifoedit before burning

Thanks... I'll try Restream... the IFO change is easy but it is a pain when people (like me :)) just want to use the burning engine of the Autoring package.

just define 16x9 for the VTS in your Authoring package or does it overrule?

No... if it is possible I don't know the option... I'll give it a little search... usually I use DVD-Lab... it gets the Aspect Ration from the Video Stream :(

ps. Anyway... it's not a good politic to cheat the IFO... if the project comes too big... it may cause problems on DVD Rebuilder or another "make it a little smaller" application :)
