does anybody had problems with this or just me?
i was able to make my backup copy using dvd decrypter and dvdfabdecrypter
after i decrypted the movie on both programs i windup with 2 folders of the same content
so what you do is this borrow the vts_ file from dvdfabdecrypter into dvddecrypter you copy it and replace it.
then open dvd shrink and extract the dvd decryter file and it will run with no problem after that you know what to do.
it worked for me.
and try to burn it on slow speed just to be safe
hopefully somebody comes with a better solution.
stealth can be done with dvdfabdecrypter and dvdshrink with no problem

I had no problems with Skeleton Key with Shrink, but neither I nor roughviper had success just with shrink on Stealth, I am going to try the first suggestion with dvdfabdecrypter

I just ran it thought DVDD and its fine now runing it thought dvd-rb and at 60% so far no problems. I would just use dvdd using both will give you two outputs.

I just downloaded the latestest version of DVDFab Decrypter and it worked perfectly with shrink! No extra steps, worked just like DVDD, opened folder with shrink and had zero difficulty. :)

Me too! I wasn't getting it with my current dvd fab. The shrink kept getting an error everytime no matter what I did. This situation was driving me nutz reading this new way was waaaaaay over my head these new plug ins vob do hickys, and all. There in my computer now just incase I get the IQ to use them. Thought I was doomed. Back to dvd fab express. I deleted the old one completely from my computer and then reinstalled the latest version. When i was installling it, it mentioned the top the latest fixes for the madagascar problems as well!!!! Also when it was up and running It said I could turn off automatic updates now. So I did anyhow. Moral of the story is DVDFAB is the way to go it doesn't get any easier. Spread the word. It's the answer to everbodys problems by the sound of it. So far that is I just think FAB was late about a week is all for the update. Pretty quick fix though for a freebie.

Well I jumped the gun. Stealth worked perfect on my computers drive. Put in the living room player it wouldn't play unless I skipped the first chapter. Then all was fine after that. So I guess it's back to school for me. By the way I made three copies to make sure it wasn't just a coaster.

I finally got it ripped. I first tried to use DVDFab Express, the trial version. It ripped the whole DVD, but DVD Shrink would not work on it afterwards. Also when I went to play it back with TheaterTek, clicking to jump to the next chapter, the video would freeze-up on every chapter, but the audio kept playing.
I then tried re-ripping it using the free version of DVDFab Decrypter. After ripping the whole DVD to hard drive I was then able to re-rip it with DVD Shrink.
I thought that the full version of DVD Express would have worked just as well as the free version, but this was not the case.

I had same problem as wheely. Would not play unless I skipped chapter 1. I used Anydvd 5.5.4.1 and DVDshrink. This would happen on my Denon 1910, but on my Sony downstairs it worked okay. I did notice on the Sony that symbols on the player would read, play, pause, play, pause a few times then play the DVD. I am going to run the DVD through Vob B and try this again to see if I can get it to clear up the problem.

Okay, running through Vob B didn't solve the problem, but as wheely said if I fast forward a little bit when it pauses at the very begining before the DVD even starts, it will play fine. I am now doing a full backup with DVDRB103 Pro to see if this has any affect. Will report back later.

Okay, did a full backup and it works okay. Go figure. Funny thing is now I get audio stutter throughout the movie. Have done it with DVDRB Pro 1.02 and 1.03 same result. First time it ever happened. Then I did the whole movie through DVDShrink with AnyDVD 5.5.4.1 reducing extras down to 50% in order to get 88% quality for movie. Everything works fine with no audio stutter. Not going to lose anymore sleep over this one.

I had big time problems with Stealth.Never did get it to decrypt using dvdcypter or dvdfabdecrypter.Smartripper did not work. The rippers would start then appear to freeze up after a very short time. dvdshrink did not work.Dvdxcopy did not work, nor did dvdfabexpress.
I finally gave up and copied the movie to s-vhs,(yes they still exist)then to the hdd, then burned it with Nero 6.
I have printed the pages that refer to this thread for future reference.

This worked for me also, but doesn't this worry anybody?
How can they make it so a DVD just freezes on the beginning of the movie without user intervention? Even when you use Shrink?

Hi!
How can they make it so a DVD just freezes on the beginning of the movie without user intervention?
This just means that the software and procedures you used did not properly create the rip and final copy.
Using alternative software and/or procedures yields a properly performing copy...

Still seems odd that the hundreds of movies I have authored with DVD Shrink, this is the only one that behaves this way and others are having the same problem.

This sounds like the same thing from Resident Evil 2.
The way I was able to get it to work was to do a movie only
backup in Shrink, but use the frame selector to get to the first
viewable item and then backup. If I watched the time index
I could tell exactly where the right point to start was since it
acted strange until I passed the point and then it reset to normal.
After that it was just like any other movie only backup.

The one SURE way of getting it done with freeware is to do this - How to backup ARccOS DVDs (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56078). It looks a little complicated, but it isn't really and it works!

I followed the PCG edit guide verbatim and all worked great up to viewing the files after I did the process. Movied played on the PC using PowerDVD. Now i'm trying to use Shrink to get in on a DVD to check it on my home system. I loaded it with out errors in Shrink and everything is there, however the file size in Shrink is over 9gigs and thats just selecting the DD sound track. If I remove all the check marks for the menus, it still reads as 9gigs of information. Total file size on the HDD is about 6gigs. Is there another process I missed or I should run to fix the size is shrink or just try and let shrink process the files as is? I saw that there is a Menu shrink program aswell which I have downloaded and will try and see if it might fix this over size in Shrink. Should I use a different program. Please let me know. So far all is good.
DVD Shrink 3.2 is the version I run. I have previous versions aswell. Thanks for all the help guys.

I used DVddecrypter with the psl2 file, it opened up in shrink fine, so I thought I would try fixvts (first time using it whole dvd) and opened it in shrink fine but would not compress less than 92.9% which still put it a 6g dvd even tried movie inly - same thing.
I'll re-rip with DDcrypt and not use fixvts prior to shrink.

djzoey and battscrew, I'd like to know more about this DVD... Could you possibly send me the IFO so I can take a look at them and see if I can find anything wrong?
I would need the original IFOs, right after decrypter. You could also include the IFOs after a full-dvd FixVTS (make sure you use the latest version, Beta 1.01)...
It can be difficult to figure out exactly why DVDShrink reports silly sizes like that, but having the IFOs is a good step.
Send them to jeanldvd at free dot fr.
Thanks in advance guys!

Hi!
If you're unable to create a properly ripped and compressed version of "Stealth" using freeware, there are commercial alternatives that have no problem whatsoever accomplishing this.

4th December 2005, 22:14
Starting over from scratch, sometimes is a good thing. I noticed that DVD Decrypter was not selecting ALL The file in File mode. the last set of files, *16*, was not selected. Hmmm...so I checked the settings for decryptor and found that an option to ignore Unreferenced Material files was selected. I unchecked that and reloaded the DVD. I made sure all files were selected and this time it was. I started the PcgEdit routine and did the PSL file and re-ripped the DVD. I stopped after that process and wanted to see if Shrink would correctly size the DVD. Sure enough, it sees the DVD under the 4.7gig mark and I'm able to select and deselect from the menu what I wanna keep and not keep. I didn't continue to shrink, and so I'm continuing with the PcgEdit process and shouldn't have to do a Mock Strip of this at the end. I'll make a DVD-RW run after this process and see how it turns out.
So a quick not to those using DVD Decryptor, make sure you have ALLLLLL of the files selected when using File Mode and or turn off the Ignore Unreferenced Material Files option in the settings.
Will let you know the turn out. Thanks for all the help on this.

4th December 2005, 22:26
Ok, completed the PcgEdit process including using the VTSFix and opened DVD Shrink and now get the 9Gig size back again. I'm wondering if I should have just done the create the PSL file and re-ripped the DVD and stopped there. DVD Shrink saw the DVD as 4.7gigs correctly at this point. So should I do the Mock Strip now?

djzoey, if you can open your rip after DVDDecrypter, then in my opinion there's really no need to use FixVTS since the DVD already loads in DVDShrink... FixVTS is only useful when your DVD does not load in shrink, or if you want to remove unreferenced material (which you can do anyway in Shrink, so even that isn't the best justification).
So... In my opinion, if it opens right after decrypter, then you're just fine.
BUT!
The fact that PgcEdit and FixVTS screws it up for DVDShrink isn't normal! And I'd like to get the bottom of that! I'm not sure what it is that got messed up in the process but I'll try to find out using the IFOs your sent me.

mmm, so the "remove crap" stage OR the fixvts stage messed things up with Shrink...
If you don't mind, when you're done with your backup, as an experiment:
- Run the "remove crap" stage with PgcEdit on your rip. Then open in Shrink: do you see everything normal?
- If yes, then run FixVTS BUT untick the "remove unreferenced material" check box, now open in DVDShrink. Does everything look normal?
- If yes, then fun FixVTS with the option "remove unreferenced material" selected. Now open in DVDShrink. According to what you've described above, things will be messed up...
Thanks for helping me figure out what the heck is going on here! (even if you found a way to do your backup)!

Watching and using the menu fuctions on the dvd home player, seems alittle goofy, my pioneer DV-09 was searching back and forth between selcting the DTS track and playing the movie, however it did play the movie and was in DTS. Only thing I saw and is not a big deal is that the DTS sound bite track was in 2ch DD instead of DTS, otherwise after it started playing the movie, the reciever reported the DTS signal and sounded great. I reproduced this on a newer Sony DVD player. Will watch the movie later for review.

If you don't mind, when you're done with your backup, as an experiment:

YES, everything was normal at 4.7Gigs here.
- If yes, then run FixVTS BUT untick the "remove unreferenced material" check box, now open in DVDShrink. Does everything look normal?
YES, everything was normal at 4.7Gigs here. I ran FixVTS in manual mode and not in the wizard mode of PcgEdit.

Yes, everything was messed up and reported 9gigs of information as before was was not able to use shrink to compress. I ran this in the wizard mode of PcgEdit to let it use the default settings for FixVTS which was to remove unref'd material.
Hope this helps.

Great, this is very useful info. I must have someting messed up in FixVTS, with the option remove unreferenced material... From the log I think you used FixVTS Beta1.0, but I don't think 1.01 would behave any differently.

djzoey, I think jsoto found what the problem was. DVDShrink does not like it when the cell IDs are in the wrong order or have gaps, which was the case after using FixVTS, with remove unreferenced material checked.
There will be a new version of FixVTS soon that will take care of that problem!
Thanks for your help!

DVD Shrink Encountered an error?
Sony recently introduced ARccOS - DVD-Video Copy Control ("face the creators of illegal copies with ARccOS copy control!" --- pleaseeeee) on some new dvds like Resident Evil 2 Region 1 for instance. To bypass this just rip with the new DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 to an .iso image then open the .iso with dvdshrink and process it. Also some other titles if you encounter an error in DVD Decrypter go to Tools | Settings | I/O tab then check Ignore Read Errors. :logfile:

Yes, definitely. But notice that it's usually faster NOT to remove unreferenced material (because FixVTS can do everything completely in-place, only rewriting what's absolutely necessary).
The unrefed material can always be shrunk to death with DVDShrink.

i tried using DVDFab Decrypter on Stealth (Swedish R2) but no luck. The complete disc backed up ok but Shrink recognised the main movie (VTS3) as unreferenced material and i couldnt reauthor, so i ended up going through dvd decrypter>pgcedit anyway
im wondering if LightningUK! is still developing DVDD for his own use. version 5.5.0.3 sitting on his computer :p
jeanl
9th December 2005, 17:30
You could have run FixVTS (latest release) on your DVDFab rip, and that would have fixed it as well... The only thing that's needed in that case is renumbering the VCID which FixVTS now does automatically. When that's done, Shrink opens the DVD just fine and displays the right stuff in the right place...
