View Full Version : Simple edit to DVD content then re-burn without quality loss

Hi all,

I have a DVD that was edited for me by a professional, I want drop the first 20 seconds, and leave everything else exactly the same.

So far I have:

Ripped the DVD to my hard drive using DVD decryptor.

Renamed the VOB file to MPG.

It now plays nicely, and looks good.

I wish to edit this file, and then save again, and maintain this quality. I have played around with a couple of editing programs, and they seem to want to export the file again, and completely re-draw every frame, and I'm losing a lot of quality. This doesn't make sense, I want to leave everything exactly as it is, just lose the first 20 seconds, then I want to burn it to DVD again.

I have no idea what a good program for this task is, or what to google.

Suggestions?

Thanks very much for your help,

Gord.

Hi!

Forget about what you've ripped to your hard drive.

Simply use DVD Shrink and open the DVD in "Re-author" mode, trim off the first portion you don't want, then save...

hi g0rd and welcome to the forum!

the only downside to using dvd shrink in re-author mode is that it will not keep functioning menus etc.

personally i would suggest you use vobblanker, by jsoto (freeware) or dvd remake pro (around the $30 mark last time i looked)

if your lucky, the part you wish to trim is a complete cell, in which case it is a very simple process to use vobblanker to remove this. if not, i understand there is also a trim feature, although i have not personally used this feature.

information on vobblanker can be found in the ifo/vob editors forum :
VobBlanker 2.0.1.0 released (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=100213)

That did it! Thanks, both. I didn't bother looking at VobBlanker as DVD Shrink solved it. How simple.

Yay!
