View Full Version : Audio sync issues

I've been noticing some audio out of sync issues on several but not all eposidic disks. Mostly on the smallville series. out of 4 episodes on a disk 1 my be out of sync. The one out of sync episode will start to play fine then at some point during playback it will immiadetly (not gradually) go out of sync for a few minutes then all of a sudden go back into sync. It seems that it may involve just one cell and does not happen in the same place on every disk. The most recent problem I had was star wars III. When doing the extras the special feature about how the stunts were filmed (not sure what the correct title of the extra was) it went out of sync right from the beginning then about half way through it snaped back into sync. I did no preprocessing and used the built in low bit matrix and processed the entire disk. You can see my configuration at the bottom of this post.

@JDOBB
If you have the Star wars ep III NTSC R1 would you be able to test this?

I'll check it out.

[Added] I also have to note that the SW III Bonus disc has LOT of material on it, even for a DVD-9 disc... This is a tough one to do and keep decent quality.

The quality is absolutly horrible even when using the low bit matrix and cce 3 pass. I'm not as concerned about the quality as I am about the audio sync issue. I figure if you can duplicate the problem on that one it may lead to a resolution to the other eposodic disk audio issues I've had. For example,

I just finished babylon5 season 1 and on the first disk episode 2 about 25 minutes into it suddonly went out of sync then snaped back into sync about a minute later then on the second disk, the first episode played fine for about 10 minutes then suddonly went out of sync for 2 minutes then suddonly went back into sync. THis has been typical for several eposodic disks that I've done.

What process are you using? I can't seem to reproduce the bad sync. What was the clock reading at the point it lost sync?

I ended up doing SWIII bonus at half-d1... and it looks ok. But that's risky as it is 16:9 and half-d1 should be 4:3. My player takes it ok, but I'm not sure I'll keep it.

I did not use half-d1. I used CCE 3 pass vbr_bia=16 Quality prec=25 Main feature=low bitrate, Extras=same as main feature and DC percision=8 and I processed the entire disk with no preprocessing. The problem is noticed right at the beginning of the special feature about how the stunts are done. You can really notice it about a minute in when the person with the aussi accent is speaking. I'm at work right now but I'll give you the exact name of the special feature when I get home.

@jdobb

I'm just getting back to you with the feature information.

Go to documentary and featurettes and select the feature Its all for real:The stunts of episode III. You will notice the audio sync problem within the first 2 minutes Expecually when the person with the aussi accent speaks.

I also reviewed my settings and they were as follows:

cce v2.67
vbr=10
prec=24
Passes=3
dc perc=8
quant matrice= very low bit rate for both main feature and extras.

@Jdobbs

Any progress on this?

dannyv: I'm sorry if i missed this but what do you use to playback? I did that Babylon dvd with no problems. The only other thing i can think of is maybe the version of CCE your using is foobar in some way? I remember having a version of CCE basic 2.69 that did some strange things, then switched to HC and everything was fine.

I also experienced a cell which was out of sync. I tried using both CCE and HC, but I had the same problem.

I sent Jdobbs some files for examination a while ago.
