Hi there,
My new HD capture card has a VFW driver, but I need to be able to access DirectShow codecs with it. I wonder if any one can help me out here...
1. Is there a VFW/WDM capture program out there that supports DirectShow codecs?
2. Failing that is there a wrapper to get my capture card to show up as a WDM card?
Obviously 1. is the preferred solution! AMcap supports both VFW and WDM but doesn't support DirectShow codecs :(

Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the features list on the link below says that actually using DS codecs is not possible.

I've been through all the codecs available pretty much (there's another thread in the HD forum about this). The fact is the device has a VFW driver and I need to use the CineForm DirectShow codec.
All the DirectShow capable capture programs only accept WDM devices... unless you guys know different!

VirtualVCR *almost* does what I want it to do - it recognises my card and allows me to encode in the CineForm DS codec. The problem is that its default settings will only allow me to capture at 29.97fps.
You can turn on "custom settings" to switch resolution and FPS, but this part appears to be hard-coded not to accept 1280x720 as a viable setting :( You can fake the config file into accepting it, but at 60fps it loses a hell of a lot of frames - Virtual Dub with the 'inefficient' VFW CineForm codec is better :|
rfmmars - I've dropped you a line, thanks.

I'm thinking that GraphEdit might be the key here... any tips on usage?

Try to have a look at "Video Capture Sources" filters enumerator category.
Documentation says about VFW Capture Filter.
VFW Capture Filter
This filter works with older video capture hardware that uses Video For Windows.
This filter has two output pins. One is called Capture, and the other is called either Preview or Overlay.
If it exists just build a graph like:
"VFW Source"->Encoder->AVI Muxer->File Writer
or something else.
