View Full Version : Possible Adware in the new DVD2SVCD?

My Microsoft AntiSpyware program detected a adware item in the DVD2SVCD folder.
It's this file C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\bbMPEG\bbmpeg.bat.
I don't think this item is responsible for the small advertise that appears under the DVD2SVCD log, wich I don't mind.
Am I the only one with this Adware?
Any thoughts on this?

Hi!
".BAT" (Batch) files are typically text files. Open the file in Notepad and read it...

The text in the .bat file says @ECHO OFF.
It must be a fake detection of the MS Antispyware.
Thanks setarip_old for the reply.

Thanks setarip_old for the reply.
My pleasure ;>}
The text in the .bat file says @ECHO OFF.
Is that ALL of the text? All that means is that the instruction that follows won't be displayed on the screen...

To my knowledge there is no file bbmpeg.bat in a DVD2SVCD installation
Delete it. If deleting it causes any problems you can always reinstall DVD2SVCD but I am pretty sure it won't.

@ setarip_old it was a file of 1kb and that was the only text in the file.
@ Nick I have never created a file called bbmpeg.bat so I think the program made it.
But I did remove the file.
Btw it was linked to the "ABetterInternet. My PanicButton" adware.
Maybe Ms antispyware saw it as a abbrevation bbmpeg vs abmpb.
Anyway thanks both.

@ raquette
Yes it is normal but can be turned off if it bothers you.
Simply check "No Banner" in the Misc tab.
@ Pinobird
I am unaware of such a file in DVD2SVCD. If you didn't make it I wonder if the adware file is designed to save itself on your machine copying a trusted filename to act as cover against detection.
Either way I reckon it's safe to delete.

If I'm not mistaken, an empty bbmpeg.bat file was earlier used as a trick to avoid the muxing phase, by setting the bbMPEG executable to bbmpeg.bat in D2S. I think Jsoto's miniDVD plugin created such a file...

Ah, then I think it's created by the new DVD2SVCD Batch Conversion tool ArchieX has written.

Yes, DVD2SVCDBATCH does create a bbmpeg.bat file if no mpg creation is required.

Ah that explains it.
I'm guessing it was a false alarm then.
Just an empty batch file to skip muxing.
