Before I begin, I want to state that these are free .VOB files and not copyrighted that I obtained from a library program in my hometown.
Now, I've searched google but I can't figure out how to play .VOBs in WMP can someone tell me how it's done? Or how I can convert the .VOBs to something that will play in WMP, but without quality loss, I tried autoGK and the colors got washed out. And DVD2AVI crashes. Thanks.

@longrifle
Hi!
1) Are these ONLY .VOBS, or full DVD "packages" of .IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs?
2) If only .VOBs, have you tried first opening Windows Media Player and "drag and drop" the file onto the open player?
3) Or you could use (Both freeware programs) "VLC" (formerly "VideoLAN") or "Media Player Classic"

Do you have a DVD-ROM in your computer? If not, you may not have an MPEG-2 decoder installed. You'll need something like PowerDVD installed, at which point a .VOB file should open in any media player.

I used DGIndex from DGMPGDec and it made a .d2v file what do I do with that? It doesn't play in anything, and virtualdub couldn't read it either. I'm not sure what to do with avisynth, the docs seem to suggest it is some kind of scripting...ok like I know what to do with that.
As far as the other suggestions, I installed powerdvd but WMP still can't open the .VOBs and yes it is just .VOBs no other files, and though MPC can open it I'd rather use WMP. And I don't want any quality/color loss. Thanks.

Try playing one in PowerDVD. If that fails, run one through GSpot and post the information it gives you. WMP should play .VOB files as easily as any other video file - they may not be .VOB files at all.

i'm sure that MPC and powerdvd can read vobs from hd and with MPC you can select all audio tracks(if your .vobs have more than one track)
if don't work the vob is corrupt.follow CWR03 orientations to test the files.

1) Have you registered with Windows PowerDVD's MPEG-2 and .AC3 filters?
2) What specific reason do you have for not using either Media Player Classic or VLC as I suggested?

I have a lot of files to do, scripting looks like a pain, isn't there an easier way to convert VOBs to AVIs without quality/color loss?

(The following is an example of how to register the WinDVD .AC3 audio filter with Windows - I don't own PowerDVD. Just replace "iviaudio.ax" with the name of the PowerDVD filter - Do this once for the MPEG2 filter and once for the .AC3 filter)
By either opening a DOS box or Desktop>> "Start">>"Run" and typing:
c:\windows\system\regsvr32 iviaudio.ax

Didn't work, so I guess I'll just convert them. Once again, how do I convert just .VOBs to something WMP will play, with no quality/color loss, please?

I asked you a question earlier in this thread, that you didn't specifically answer, so I'll ask again:
Have you tried first opening Windows Media Player and "drag and drop" the file onto the open player?
If so, what happens?

I also asked that you try something, then post something, which you have not done.
Have you tried AutoGK?

I can be mistake... but looks like you are expecting that someone writes a special "application" that will do everything you need... so you don't have to study and/or explore a little... I really don't mean to be rude... but please man... the tips you got from everyone are enough for you to get the job done.

Yep, just gave me the circle with a line through it cursor, so no play.

I said I tried autogk in an earlier post. Gspot says it's a mpeg file, but all the fields except type, size, stat and name are "n/a". PowerDVD plays them fine.

Just wondering if someone already wrote such a program since it should be a common thing to do, who the hell wants to write scripts for 20 files...too involved..

Open it in GSpot again and on the bottom left click "Render." You should get more information about the file such as this:
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/176/rendered9nf.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
As I said before, a .VOB file should play in practically any media player, especially WMP. AutoGK shouldn't cause color washout - if it does, I would expect that any conversion of that type would cause the same.

If you'd quit whining and actually read the documents, you'd find that DGIndex can create the scripts automatically.

I needed to select options-settings-render, it didn't used to do that in old versions so I thought it didn't recognize the file, after I enabled rendering it says elecard mpeg2 is the audio path with blank video path. WMP doesn't play any .VOB I have and I have many different ones.

There's obviously something wrong with your MPEG-2 decoder. Something is probably wrong with your PowerDVD installation.

longrifle,
4) Be nice to each other and respect the moderator. Profanity and insults will not be tolerated.
considering the standing that neuron2 has in the video community and the professional and curteous manner he displays when taking his own personal time to help others in this forum, i would be very careful about who you call childish.
since the start of this thread, you have shown on several occasions that you are unwilling to help those that are trying to help you, and to expend any additional effort to reach a solution.
i would suggest you re-think this strategy.

His question has been answered by neuron2 and reiterated by Rockas. Just because he is too lazy to apply the solution doesn't mean anyone should waste anymore time with this person.
He obviously wants instant gratification.
I have a lot of files to do, scripting looks like a pain,

We have rules that we expect to be followed...No excuses.
As such, insulting someone of neuron2's standing is not acceptable.
In his defense, I myself, as a noob, received a strike by neuron2 for not following the rules... but he was right at the time ;) and I was wrong (cross posting). I still respect him.
As I learned in College no one wants to hear excuses...(scripting looks like a pain) especially the Professors. Besides excuses are for children.
So, as your question has been answered as far as I am concerned and speaking for myself, I think we are done here.

I'm glad that we're in agreement. I imagine longrifle has gotten the message, by now, and having what appears to be solid help already delivered, I'm closing this thread.
