Hi,
the problem is:
i've ripped a movie in my HDD with aspect ratio 16:9. DVD2AVI though insists that it's 4:3, deforming the picture. I took a look around its settings, but couldn't find anything.
i'd really appeciate your help.
thanks,

DVD2AVI tells you the AR setting of the DVD, but always uses 1:1 (i.e. 720x480) for it's processing/display.
You undoubtedly need to resize somewhere in your processing to achieve the desired display aspect ratio.

the dvd is ripped 16:9 [see pic] but in DVD2AVI's prevew and output [eg Save AVI], the pic is deformed to 4:3 [see pic]. So far I've checked everything and still can't figure out why...

I see what you mean, but I'm not sure which is correct.
As I understand it, on a DVD, both the ifo file and the mpeg stream within the vob files have a DAR setting. From what I've heard, for DVD, the ifo file takes precedence (the DVD player reads the aspect from the ifo file and ignores the DAR setting in the mpg stream).
Since SmartRipper is reading the ifo (that's how it supports movie mode), and dvd2avi only reads the vobs, I'm tempted to think SmartRipper is right. However, I've never known dvd2avi to give me the wrong number.
Final answer - let your eyes decide. Resize the movie to 640x480. Also resize it to 640x360. Look at them both. If 640x480 looks right, then it's 4x3. If 640x360 does, then it's 16:9. [hint: look for a round object].

gnittor, you are perfectly right.
DVD2AVI 1.82 by OGO includes the possibility to control the aspect ratio of the DVD2AVI preview window. Also the correct ratio is displayed during the conversion process.
However, this information is not transferred to the resulting D2V file when clicking on save project. I don't know if this is also the case with "save avi" as i never use this option.
The result is that the subsequent step with vfapiconv and cce is always working with the wrong ratio and none of the mentioned progs is able to correct this.
If OGO is in this forum : PLEASE CHECK THIS MATTER, I AM DESPERATE !!

In fact OGO isn't very active now.
And if you read the DVD2AVI.txt, you'll see that the resize is only done when you use the save avi option and that he doesn't really plan to add this function to VFAPI.
You will have to use avisynth to resize before feeding cce

thanks vlad59, somehow I have overlooked this phase in the readme... ;)
However, I have no experience with avisynth. I just want to do some frame serving from my VOB files, modify this with vfapi to become a frame avi and then feed this to cce.
Where does avisynth step in there, INSTEAD of dvd2avi or AFTER dvd2avi ??
And how do I use it. After all it is just a DLL ??
Thanks.. ;)

thanks for the replies guys...
to be honest, i just noticed all these replies, i appreciate it!
after Kedirekin's reply i just followed his advice and used the resize in vdub to correct the ratio, but still it would be nice not needing to correct it, but just resizeit...
thanks guys:)
