i have a problem when i encode with quenc and put borders using addborders() or letterbox(). i seem to have black borders that are not the background black color of the player that im using like windows media player, i havent tried any other player but im sure that the default black color of avisynth is not the dvd black border color. if you cant help me with this problem how can i improve the quality of mainconcepts encoder, because when i put it in 1.5mbs bitrate i get pixelated frames. how do i make it more dvd like?? the reason im using quenc is because it seems to work better in low bitrate than mainconcept.

Read here: addborders, how to use different black borders?? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=100613) You can't ask the same question when you already asked it regarding illegally-obtained copyrighted material just because you waited a month.

how do i improved mainconcept? hehe.

1.5 mbps is going to look like poo on the best encoder on the planet, let alone mainconcept (which is prone to macroblocking, but is excellent at high bitrates).

to make it DVD like use a DVD like bitrate - don't be stingy on discs. they cost a few cents each and take a couple of minutes to burn. just encode at 4500 kbps and above (6500 is a pretty safe number, and anything above that can be done in 1-pass safely as well. 8500 is as close to perfection as DVD has to offer, because above that there's more risk of playback issues).

black points are often a whim of the media player being used - without knowing what WMP is doing i can't tell you how to get blacker blacks (probably not possible).

what do you mean by black points?

so the less bitrate more pixels??? is there a filter i can use that could compensate??

reason y i did that was because one of the mods told me to so it was not my fault was it??

well, yes. that stands to reason - if quality stayed the same when bitrate went down we'd just compress our movies at 100kbps and fit 20 hours on a DVD-5...

deblocking filters can be applied to reduce blocking artefacts, but it's much better to just use a higher bitrate (and almost no standalone DVD players have deblocking filters) as you'll be losing lots and lots of detail even if the blocks aren't there. even the best deblocker will simply replace blocks with blur, and both are annoying.

by black point i mean the brightness level of the darkest shade in the video. the higher the black point the greyer things look.

when you display video, the graphics card will render it to screen according to how the player wants it to be shown. you can tweak brightness, contrast and saturation for most graphics cards, but WMP doesn't offer much control over that kind of thing. try use a better media player that allows you to tweak brightness/contrast/saturation until the video looks nice.

if in doubt, use search :)

As pointed out by CWR03, this is basically a cross-post of this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=100613

You had a ton of help going on in that thread. Did you ever post a segment of your file like Wilbert asked you to do?

Go back to the original thread and supply more info; they'll fix you up if you supply the input they request. Follow Wilbert's link on how to post a clip.
