View Full Version : Quickest way to split episodic discs with VobBlanker?

I tried splitting a 4-episode DVD-9 into two 2-episode DVD-5s using VobBlanker according to this article:
http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=554725&postcount=7http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=554725&postcount=7
I then traced it in PgcEdit and got the following and similar warnings:

This particular menu has two program cells for each button, showing the button highlighted. Each episode has its own separate VTS.
It seems to play fine in WinDVD 4 but something is definitely wrong. How can this be avoided?
What is the best way to use VobBlanker for this task, skipping wanted titles and blanking unwanted ones without processing every titleset?
I found nothing about this with Google and I only found the above post on the subject buried within another thread. Maybe a short guide would be in order. The documentation is rather vague about skipping titlesets.

i don't think the warning is because you tried to split the DVD with VB.
does the original give you the same warning? sorry i don't know much about the warning. r0lZ, will have the answer for you.
about splitting there are some guides on the VB site Splitting a DVD9 with VobBlanker (http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/guides.htm).
i don't think this guide is the best for that you might want to look at the Blanking with VobBlanker guide (the Video Title Set (VTS) Blanking and/or Program chain (PGC) Blanking sections)

I found what the problem was.
When I skipped the desired titlesets, e.g., VTS_02_*.VOB and VTS_03_*.VOB, and blanked the unwanted ones, e.g., VTS_04_*.VOB and VTS_05_*.VOB, VobBlanker created the following in the destination directory:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_04_0.IFO
VTS_05_0.IFO
VTS_04_1.VOB
VTS_05_1.VOB
These all apply to the newly blanked titlesets.
I then copied to the destination directory:
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
And just moved:
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.IFO
VTS_02_1.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
Then corrected VTS sectors in IfoEdit. This gave the above-mentioned errors in PgcEdit.
I later thought about it and discovered that I needed to also copy over the original VIDEO_TS.IFO to replace the new one generated by VobBlanker since this contains all the menu button information. After correcting the VTS sectors, this worked fine in PgcEdit. I hope this will help anyone experiencing the same problem.

The SKIP option should be used with care, except in the case of "Use input folder" checked.
If you have "Use input folder" UNchecked, you need to copy ALL the skipped files to the destination folder BEFORE VB processing. In this way, sectors will be automatically adjusted and the output DVD will be fully OK.

Aha! That's good to know. Does this include copying the original VIDEO_TS.IFO file?
BTW can you please post a guide for doing this here or at your site? It would be very useful and save lot's of frustration and time and wear and tear on our hard drives. ;)
Thanks.

VIDEO_TS.IFO is always generated, because to adjust the sectors you need to change some values inside it. So, the answer is no, not needed; and in the case of the file exists in the output folder. it will be overwritten.
