View Full Version : Sound problems with DVD Decrypter IFO mode

What I'm trying to do is this:
I have some old VHS tapes (mainly concerts) that I have converted to DVD (plugging VCR into DVD recorder).
This gives me a reasonable quality transfer, however, I have no control over menu layout and chapter breaks etc.

So, I'm using TMPGEnc Author 1.5 to create my own DVDs with menus from the transfers, but I'm running into problems.
When I use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to convert from the "transfer DVD" to video and audio source files that TMPGEnc Author will recognise there appears to be no sound, even though I have both files (mpeg and ac3) and TMPGEnc Author does not generate an error message (just no sound is heard when in edit mode, or when playing authored DVD).

I have also tried using ReMPEG2 to output seperate video and audio, which does work, but the sound quality is terrible (introduces static/white noise).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

When I use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to convert from the "transfer DVD" to video and audio source files that TMPGEnc Author will recognise

There should be no need for this step at all.

"TMPGEnc DVD Author" should readily accept as input the DVD you've created on your tabletop recorder - including VRO file format...

Yeah, I tried that but it gives me the following error message:

File E:\VIDEO_TS.IFO can not be opened.

1) How did you get .AC3 audio from a VHS tape?

2) Does the initial DVD, created by your tabletop recorder, play on your PC with audio?

3) Would you please list all of the filenames and filesizes that appear on your tabletop-created DVD?

Thanks for your help so far, apolgies for the delayed reply:

1) How did you get .AC3 audio from a VHS tape?

I didn't get it from the tape, I got it from decrypting the DVD that I had copied from the tape.

2) Does the initial DVD, created by your tabletop recorder, play on your PC with audio?

Yes.

3) Would you please list all of the filenames and filesizes that appear on your tabletop-created DVD?

I have one folder:
VIDEO_TS

Within this folder are the following files:

VIDEO_TS.BUP 12 kb
VIDEO_TS.IFO 12 kb
VIDEO_TS.VOB 70 kb
VTS_01_0.BUP 46 kb
VTS_01_0.IFO 46 kb
VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,018 kb
VTS_01_2.VOB 1,048,018 kb
VTS_01_3.VOB 1,048,018 kb
VTS_01_4.VOB 210,936 kb

I'm using TMPGEnc Author 1.5
Any reason you haven't updated/upgraded to v.1.6xxx?

You might want to try the following:

1) Copy all of the DVD-related files to your hard drive
2) Join the 4 .VOBs into 1 large .VOB
3) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" to "Open File" (NOT "Open DVD")

This might sound like a stupid question, but how do I join the fils together?

Or, would I be better off using DVD decrypter to rip the files to my hard drive without file splitting?
What would be the best mode to use, should I stick with IFO mode or use file mode?

Thanks again.

Doing this in "File" mode would be a very simple way to accomplish it ;>}

I have now decrypted the DVD into one large VOB file (3,958,078 kb), but when I open the VOB file within TMPGAuthor it only plays the first few seconds (it only plays 250 frames) and ends.
I tried another DVD and is does the same thing.

Did you purchase your v.1.5 of TMPGEnc DVD Author, or did you "obtain it by other means"?

did you "obtain it by other means"?

Yes.
Are there "bugged" versions doing the rounds?

BTW, I do intend to purchase, I just need to make sure I can do exactly what I want first.

You betcha! Sometimes, "You get what you pay for" - and it may include viruses...
