Here goes:
Recently I purchased Hauppauge WinTV-GO (bt878) hoping to replace my outdated 3dfx voodoo Tv... which recently lost it's audio (more on this below).
But, not so fast...
The new Win-TV installed fine with both original and BT drivers, audio was present, viewing was ok, from dscaler and vdub, but:
- while capturing, image, both onscreen (overlay) and captured was jerky, stuttering, with horizontal lines stuttering, regardless of codec, losless or not (huyfuv, divx, etc...). Note I'm not complaining on dropped frames, the picture istelf was jerky. Even with disabling preview (overlay) while capturing, the resulted captured video was jerky (with no dropped frames). The video was looking as if someone was pulling couple of the horizontal lines to the right...
Once capture is stopped, video returns to normal, even though I noticed video tends to jerk when I do something on my PC, like open new application, etc... As if CPU activity affects the tv card...
- I physically moved card to other PCI slot, exatly same stuttering
Just to add to confusion, here is the fact about old 3dfx card, which captures flawlessly, in the very same machine, in the very same pci slots, no stuttering even with tight divx compression, no dropped frames.
However 3dfx card, using both BT and original WDM drivers manages to produce audio ONLY under dscaler while viewing. When trying to capture under dscaler, no audio.
When viewed thru virtualdub or any other app, no audio whatsoever... I tried all audio mixer combos possible, no luck.
That was the reason I went for WinTV...
Summary:
1. New WinTV: audio ok, viewing OK, capturing jerky
2. Old 3dfx, viewing ok, capturing ok, no audio
Any ideas appreciated,
Thanks,
Robert
