Hi guys!
Can someone please explain for us how to rip the mentioned protections?
I just tried to rip Merchant from Venice. Got some strange read errors on VOB 4 I believe. Trying DVD Shrink and dvdecrypter...
Tried to download DVDFAB Decrypter. it took a while but it did pass. However after runing DVDshrink on the result and then just munts the iso and try to view it with Powerdvd it stucks at the end of movies as I just skip chapter for chapter. Is this cause of ripguard or whatever type of protection?
Cheers Himi

Hi!
As of today, there is no evidence that Macrovision's "RipGuard" copy protection has yet been applied to any commercial DVD...

In order for anyone to provide you with meaningful assistance, it will be necessary for you to make the effort of specifically stating the EXACT wording of the error message and which of the two programs generated it...
Try cleaning the DVD...
Make sure the version of DVD Decrypter you are using is version 3.5.4...
This DVD is a 5/10/05 Columbia Tristar Home Video release. Columbia Tristar is owned by SONY. Therefore, it is very likely that it contains SONY's "ARccOS" copy protection.
DVD Shrink cannot, by itself, process ANY version of "ARccOS" copy protection.
If it's an earlier/simpler version of this protection, DVD Decrypter v.3.54 should be able to process the DVD properly.
If it's a later/more complex version of this protection - and you've had a problem with DVDFab Decrypter, you might want to invest in the commercial "one click" program, DVD95Copy... (Or search for a "PSL2" plugin file made for this SPECIFIC DVD, to be "Imported" into DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4)

Hi,
Well I started witg DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and got cyclic redundancy error in first analysing part.
After that I enabled AnyDVD which already was loaded but not enabled.
Tried DVD Shrink again with same result.
Uninstalled Anydvd and installed DVD Fab Decrypter. DVD Fab was successful in ripping but it took a "while". After that I used DVD Shrink again to rip the DVD Fab result WITHOUT encoding ie. DVD-9 format setting in DVD Shrink. I always use DVD Shrink in this mode as my primary ripper. After that I always do the encoding with DVD Rebuilder Pro 1.01 and CCE SP.
I do use DVD shrink to be able to remove all except mainmovie and the audio I
prefer.
When I tried DVD Rebuilder Pro on the above DVD Fab and DVD Shrink result i got an error from DVD Rebuilder saying something like the file V001......... reports ok but there are no .M2V file. This happend around 68% of total process in DVD Rebuilder. Tried twice.
After that I used DVD Shrink to encode it which was succsessful.
Ideas?
Cheers!

It would seem that you accomplish nothing additional by using DVD Shrink without compression after having already ripped the DVD with DVDFab Decrypter...

So, do you now have any unresolved issues regarding this DVD?

Couple of things:
1. If it took a "while" (meaning longer than a DL usually takes), then it is likely the disk is damaged.
2. One good reason to post process DVD Fab Decrypter stuff is that the IFOs do not appear to be totally pristine (DVD Shrink sometimes pukes on its output, for example). As well, real disk defects are still ignored by DVDFD, which is a real bugbear.

Hi,
I use DVD Shrink to be able to remove audios och subs. I had problem with this in earlier versions of DVD Rebuilder thats the reason.
What is the best practice of doing DVD rips this days? is it DVD Decrypter together with something else such as Anydvd?
I´m going to try without DVD Shrink to see about my earlier problems in DVD Rebuilder.
Cheers

DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, by itself, continues to be able to rip the vast majority of DVDs directly (including the first wave of ARccOS copy protected DVDs).
As I've mentioned elsewhere, in my opinion, the ripping function included in (commercial program) DVD95Copy appears to be able to address the copy protection on any and all DVDs (including the latest version of ARccOS copy protection schemes) - and allows you to remove any audio and subtitle streams you wish, among other things...

@setarip_old
Well I managed to create the DVD with DVD Shrink but I indeed prefer DVD-RB :)

Will try DVD05Copy then. No need to encode with it? ie I´m still able to only do the rip part?

Yes, it includes a "rip-only" function...

Quick question since DVD Shrink was mentioned. I was wondering if any information is lost when using DVD Shrink with no compression? I don't know if a transcoder will loose information even in the "no compression mode". I'm trying to merge the extended version of LOTR onto one DVD5 disk by using DVD Shrink at no compression, then using DVD-RB. I know that the quality will be lacking, but so is my television and I'm a lazy guy.

To the best of my knowledge, no data is lost if "No Compression" is selected...

Unfortunately if "No compression" is selected, since the portions of the movies are over two hours long they will not fit on a DVD-5. There's only one that's less than two hours, and with all four commentary tracks it's still almost 7 gig.

@CWR03
I believe "curious d" is intending to use DVD Shrink strictly as a ripping tool and then using DVD Rebuilder to compress - so the initial DVD Shrink-ripped size shouldn't be an area of concern...
