I made a backup copy of The Aviator using DVD Decrypter.

Wen I play the backup disk, the standalone DVD player reads it fine and it works, PowerDVD on the PC plays it fine and it works.

But according to DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and good old Windows Explorer its a blank disk. Zero free room, but also blank.

Yeah, I know, it plays so whats the problem, but why has it done this. Any clues??

Hi!

Hi!

It's hard to understand how PowerDVD can recognize the burned DVD, while Windows and DVD Decrypter don't recognize it (properly).

1) Did you try rebooting your system and then placing the DVD in your DRD reader or burner?

2) Are you sure PowerDVD was reading from the burned DVD and not from another source (Files on your hard drive or the original DVD)?

3) What software and procedures did you use to create the burned DVD? - Any error messages at any stage of copying/compressing/burning? If so, which software and what specific message(s)?

This disk was burnt a week ago, any time I try it it does the same, machines been booted several times :-)

Yes, its definately reading off the DVD.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, and then DVD Shrink to compress the files, convert to an ISO and use DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO. No error messages were given.

Same procedure that I do for all other DVDs.

Here is the info if I use DVDInfo Pro to interrogate the disk, note it says there is no region coding and is not DVD-VIDEO:-

You might want to try using DVD Decrypter's tool to "finalize disc"...

Aye, tried that no go. I get an unable to recover TOC.

Hunting the net I found someone with a similar problem:-
"This is probably a problem with XP, maybe SP2, and the NEC driver. If you use ISOBuster, I bet that you will be able to see everything you burned. It's probably because SP2 now has problem reading multisession discs, but I could be wrong. I'm hoping some expert like Liggy could provide some help. I am experiencing the same problem with certain media, and even though XP reports it blank, there are data in there, and I can extract it easily with ISOBuster. When I try to close the disc with NERO, it said I can't close it. I actually burn the disc as finalize using CDBurnerXP Pro, but checking it using Nero, it said it's still open session."

I hadn't tried ISOBuster, so ran it up and surprise, surprise that reads it OK. Copied the VIDEO and AUDIO_TS to the hard drive and decided to try burning it again using the extracted files.

Converted the directories to an ISO and then used DVD Decrypter to burn it an it all works as per nommal..

I dunno. A glitch, a bug, a dodgy disk??

It's probably because SP2 now has problem reading multisession discs

Did you, somehow, create a multisession DVD of "The Aviator"? If so, that's undoubtedly the cause of your difficulty, because as far as I know, as multisession DVDs are an absolute "no-no", regardless of your operating system...

Well, certainly not knowingly I didn't, but it does appear that somewhere along the line the session wasn't closed or there was a glitch. It was only this one that did it.

Thanks for the help.

At this point, it would seem the only option would be to burn it again (perhaps with different media)...
