View Full Version : Backup doesn't nav properly; what to try?

I tried backing-up "The House of Sand and Fog" (Movie and Extras, steal 25% from Extras) and the result doesn't navigate properly in the Extras area. Tried it twice to same effect. In neither case were there any errors reported, nor can I find anything in the rebuilder.log, but again when I click for example on Cast for cast member info, nothing happens, among other anomalies.

Two things of note: the DVD has lots & lots of still frames in it, and when I run PgcEdit on the original DVD Decrypter-ripped VIDEO_TS folder it says "Warning: There are 8 discrepancies in some VMGM/VTSI_MAT tables. Do you want to run the "fix number of streams" macro to fix them?" I did NOT run the fix macro.

- Is there a preferred way to check a titleset before running DVD-RB on it?
- Should I try running the PgcEdit "fix" macro and do the RB again?
- Anything else I should be looking at-or-for that might raise heck w/DVD-RB?

I am disinclined to spend a lot of time bothering w/this specific disc, but if there's a recommended way for either checking a disc up-front or troubleshooting this specific issue I'd like to learn those things.

I backed up the R1 version of that film a few months back (very good, but depressing movie)... no problems that I can recall. So there are errors noted on the original, eh? What did you use to rip it? Sometimes stray ripper settings can cause odd consequences...

As I said, I used DVD Decrypter in File mode; maybe I will hit "Default" and rip again...

I tried this again and this time it worked--everything seems to navigate properly and it looks good.

I believe I might have reset DVDD to "Default" somewhere along the way, the only other change to File Mode settings is that I turned "Ignore Unreferenced VTS Sets" off.

Also, since using RB in earnest, and although I routinely use PgcEdit to "Play the movie on insert" and sometimes I Kill Playback on stuff, I do not fix any of the problems PgcEdit reports on opening RB's VIDEO_TS.

It works. I'm happy.

EDIT: As I was filing the log for this rebuild, it occurred to me to compare the failed first rebuild log to the new, OK log. Oddly, the new log doesn't show the PREPARATION of VTS 3-8, and there's no REBUILDING/UPDATING of navpacks & such in the good log either. The only thing I can think is that the first time I tried remaking this disc, I might very well have had VTS_min_size=0 at the time I tried the first RB. I've since turned it off (commented it out).

Maybe there's a bug somewhere jdobbs after all?
