Hi.

My question (short):

Is it possible to delete/remove unused PGCs from a DVD.

The explanation.

I am reauthoring some dvds at the moment, which don't have my own subtitle language on it. I then add it, and edit menus buttons so it all fits. But sometimes I have problem.

If there is only 1 PGC which contains the main movie, I have no problem at all, BUT if there are more PGCs i doesn't work always.

I have for example some dvds with 5 PGCs, and I can see in IfoEdit that four of them only are 00:00:00:15 long. So I think they doesn't contain anything. If I just could delete the unused PGCs my problem would be solved.

But can it be done? I hope you experts can assist me on this one.

Cheers,

I'm btw using DVDMaestro to author my DVD.

I have spend hours of searching to find, and read about Multi PGCs with Maestro. I think I need to use IfoUpdate...

If each PGC reprsents a title, then use PgcEdit to re-order the titles so they are the highest numbered titles on the disk. (Titles - remap title numbers). Then use PgcEdit to delete last PGC in domain (domain menu). This will update all the relevant tables.

If the PGCs are part of "title 1", then you will need to re-author the post commands of title 1 to ensure there is no "jump to nowhere". Note PgcEdit has a check for jumps to nowhere, which you can ensure go to somewhere you want.

Good luck.

Maybe a dumb question, but what do you mean 'by represents a title'. How can I se if it does?

If you use IFOUpdate in adjusted cell mode and just put the .15 second blank clips in after the main movie in DVDMaestro, make sure the total adjusted cells, which you get from "save chapters files" in IFOUpdate, equals the total chapters in DVDMaestro, it will work. You could create "playlists" with DVDMaestro and then run IFOUpdate in "Maestro multi pgc mode" but adjusted cells mode is much easier and faster. If then you want to kill playback of the .15 second clips, do that thru PGCEdit.

The PGC clips are not 15 seconds long, but 00:00:00:15 :) Therefore they can't contain anything usefull :)

I don't understand how to do it. I Can't see the option to "save chapters files" in IFOUpdate".

Can I get you to clarify the steps I need to go through.

Thats what I meant ".15", which is just a black frame 1/2 second long. Most of these .15 second clips are just cells, so you will either have to create your own .15 second "dummy" file or put several cells together to equal .15 seconds or Maestro will complain about minimum chapter length. Rip these pgc's from the original movie with DVDDecrypter in ifo mode or use a separate program like Ulead Video Studio to make a .M2V file that is just a black image .15 seconds in length. In IFOUpdate open the ifo file of the original movie you are backing up, then select file, save chapter files (.chp). Make sure that in "mode" you have adjusted cell mode selected, and pick a location to save this file and you will have a list of all the cells of the movie. In Maestro, cells are the same as chapters. So however many cells the movie has you will have to create that many chapters. Then on the movie timeline in Maestro you will first put the main movie, then at the end of that movie you put the .M2V .15 second file, on the same movie timeline. If you have 4 of these .15 second dummies in the original movie, you will need to put 4 after your movie. Then you will import your adjusted cell .chp chapter file you created with IFOUpdate. You will probably need to check the count of how many chapters it imported, and make sure it is the same number that the adjusted cell file has. Also, you might need to manually create chapters if it did not create the correct amount, and manually make sure that there is a chapter at each dummy .15 second .M2V file. The total number of chapters you have in Maestro has to equal the total number of cells from the adjusted cell file from IFOUpdate. After Maestro has finished you will need to put the VOB's that it created into the movie you are backing up. Then when you run IFOUpdate make sure "mode" is set to "adjusted cell mode" and update the IFO's. If done correctly, IFOUpdate will do its thing. Don't forget to "correct VTS sectors". It sounds more complicated than it is, but I have used this method many times successfully.

I will try it out and let out know how it went.

Thanks for your time.

What I mean by "represents a title" is if a PGC has its own title number.

For example:

PGC1 = Title 24
PGC2 = Title 26
PGC3 = Title 87

As opposed to scenario 2:

PGC1 = Title 66
PGC2 = (nothing, just the continuation of T66)
PGC3 = (ditto)

Hi.

My question (short):

Is it possible to delete/remove unused PGCs from a DVD.

Yes, with DvdReMake Pro. Program will adjust navigation automatically. But if PGC was actually used then references to deleted PGc will be highlighted so that you may fix navigation manually.

If I just could delete the unused PGCs my problem would be solved.Another approach would be to leave the unused PGCs untouched and just replace the PGC containing the main movie only. This can be done with VobBlanker's Replace PGC function.

This is the way I do it, and it works for me - also in case of more than one PGC in the main movie titleset:

1. Demux the PGC containing the main movie, using PgcDemux.
2. Create a SUP file with your new subtitles, using SubtitleCreator.
3. Mux (author) the video, audio and subtitle streams, using MuxMan
4. Copy the main movie PGC from the newly authored DVD into the old DVD structure, using VobBlanker's Replace PGC function.

(in the latest version of VobBlanker, you even have the option to copy the new subtitle colours and stream attributes along with the main movie PGC).

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I will take a look at it and come back to you.

There can easily go 2-3 weeks, 'cause I have many other things to do as well :)

Thank you very much.

Great tip :cool:. Some DVD shamelessly pushed too many trailer plugs which I quickly blanked into stubs but it was still an eye sore. PgcEdit 0.6.1 allowed me to remove the unwanted titlesets but re-routing those "jump to nowhere" commands still much a trial and error process. Is there a method to help with the re-routing?. Thanks.

Yep it sure does, just finished editing one of the Seinfeld Season DVDs with DvdReMake Pro and the program couldn't have pointed out those navigation errors more clearly. A few syndicated episodes featured on the DVD are now the way I want them..., adore the program Dimad. ;)

DvdReMake Pro + DVD-RB are a godsend.
