View Full Version : Lossless analog captures from cable

I want to losslessly capture analog NTSC video from cable. I'd prefer to use huffyuv, but uncompressed video would be adequate. Ideally, I'd like a video capture card with an integrated tuner. I'm looking for high quality, but under $200 US.

I've checked all the major names, and it seems almost no one manufactures TV tuner cards that can capture losslessly. The only one I could find is the Hauppage WinTV.

Are there any other cards I should consider? I assume it would have to be a PCI card to support the needed bandwidth.

Or should I just get a plain ol' video capture card (there are plenty of these that support lossless) and use my VCR as the tuner? I'd rather not have the extra cable clutter, but if this will give me the best results, I could live with it.

Thanks

HuffYUV does lossless compression. Any card can capture losslessly unless they have a hardware encoder, such as Hauppauge's PVR cards.
