I hope I'm posting in the correct forum.

On and off for the last 10 to 12 hours I have been trying to call up the Doom9 website, not the forum, and I get a "site not available" screen in Explorer.

Basically what I would like to know is when will it be back up? I find it very informative about new "stuff", this is where I discovered ffdshow, LAME, and much else.

Thanks for everything, :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:
Grumpy

how about a ping www.doom9.org? there is a handful of servers on three continents.. if there was a problem with one it would be good to know which one is concerned and that's why the IP address is the most crucial piece of information. Imagine the police sending out a bill to all drivers of red cars because a trafic camera flashed a red car.. they go after the number, too.

Thanks Doom9 for the rapid response.

leffe.dnsalias.com (213.113.149.111), repeated with a different command also got server2.doom9.org (193.30.227.240)

This is via Tracert command in command prompt. Took me a while, sorry. :o

Grumpy :thanks:

Yes, working fine here, now. I don't know what the problem was but it did occur. Could have been down for maintenance or one of the transfer servers may have been off line?

Anyway, much thanks for your response, It's working now.

Good bye, for now,
Grumpy

well, thanks to dns round robin you're likely to get a different server each time the cached address is invalidated, so it's crucial to make note of the IP right when a problem ocurrs. Servers that do not return a valid HTTP pattern are even removed from the round robin (one is being re-setup at this time, but I constantly get email telling me it's out of the round robin so that can't be the problem).

As I do know that my server has been ok all day maybe it had something to do with todays major backbone problems from Level3 and Verio (as reported on Slashdot and http://www.boingboing.net/2005/10/21/two_tierone_isps_are.html )

Main Site http://www.doom9.org is not responding for half a hour now, a ping leads nowhere.

Recently I couldn't access the site via the address, but if I entered the forum and clicked the link at the top of the page it went right in. Also on occasion I was too lazy to type the "www." and it wouldn't load without it, but would load with it.

and it wouldn't load without it,It doesn't, there's no DNS entry for it and probably never will be anymore because I can't have aliases and failsave switchover for that url. I have temporarily removed both servers that caused problems.. zoneedit should've removed them automatically and never put back but apparently something went wrong with their failsave switchover.
