Hey all. i recently got the entire first series of McGyver on dvd (6 in total) and when i attempt to rip it dvd decrypter just selects the largest file and not each episode individually, meaning that i can only rip one of the 4 episodes on each disk. does anyone know how to help? Please??

hi,
and welcome in the forum :)
IMHO the best solution is to use dvddecrypter in chapter mode, it will extract each chapter , after you open each of the chapter in dgindex and you créate a .d2v file for each episode.
PS : generaly you have around 3 chapters by episode (1 chapter fro the start credits, 1 for the episode, and 1 more for the end credits).
Good luck.

Hi!
What is your intent? Do you want to convertthe episodes to a different format (DivX or other), or do you want to duplicate the DVD (compressed or not)?

actually i am trying to convert the files to mpeg4 to store them on my archos av700 dvr but am also having trouble converting them from the .iso format to mpeg4(im trying to do this as simply as possible as im pretty new to this whole area and dont know anything about daemon tools etc!) got any ideas?

Rather than making an ISO rip, which you'll still have to mount and rip again anyway, you should rip them in file or IFO mode. In most cases file mode will rip all the episodes into one VOB, whereas IFO mode will let you rip each episode individually. You will only have to rename the directory after ripping each episode with IFO. Once they're ripped, using AutoGK is one of the easiest ways to convert them to mpeg4.

cool but will i have to run each episode individually thru autoGK?

As I said, you have the choice of ripping the episodes individually or all in one file. Whichever you choose will be the way you'll run them through AutoGK, individually or all in one file.

is there no way to rip the entire disk(even if it takes all night!),pass it through autoGK and still maintain the original dvd structure- i.e with menus and chapter/episode selection options etc? sorry for being so dense about this! :)

No, sir. You can copy the DVD as-is, but AutoGK is a conversion tool; you can use it to make Divx or Xvid copies of videos in much-reduced sizes at good quality, but you will lose all/most DVD features.
Does your archos player use & respect DVD structures i.e. menus & navigation? Most such players do not, or so I believed.

Yeah ur right, it doesnt :( guess i was just looking for the quick way to upload all my films onto it! While you mentioned it (the divx and xvid) is the .avi that comes from autoGK the same size as if I had used the DivX converter in the DivX create bundle? I know i could rip the file twice and convert each one with the appropriate software to find out if they were but you seem to know a lot of this "off the bat" so to speak so i taut id ask! :)this only concerns me because iv only got a 40Gb hard drive on the archos and i dont want to get to the state where iv ripped all those episode individually only to find iv no room for them! Sorry for the delay in posting(my net was down :( )

have you tried dvd shrink in reeauthor mode. i had some of those episodic dvds(stargate) and dvdshrink copied episode by episode, load them in Autogk and let it convert overnight(job queue)
Or you can convert the largest file and separate the episodes with virtualdub after they were converted(start point, end point and direct stream copy)
