I tried a one-click full PRO backup of "Eyes Wide Shut" using HC 016tr2 encoder. The only non-std setting was "Steal 25% from Extras". This disc has just a few extras consisting of 3 short interviews and the theatrical trailer. Oddly, everything seems fine except that ONE of the interviews is rather badly out-of-sync from start to finish, an 8m45sec title.

One peculiar trait of this disc is that it has only one set of VTS...VOB files i.e. the movie & extras are all within the VTS_01 set of files.

Can anyone suggest a reason why one "title" within the output set would be out-of-sync? Any recovery/correction possible? It took 4.5hours to convert this disc, I'd rather not just try the whole thing again. Here's what PgcEdit has to say about this VTST:

VTST 1 , 5 TTN 5 (8:45) Title 5 - Chapters: 1, Programs: 1, Cells: 1

I did a REBUILD again (no new prep or encode) to the same result; out-of-sync on one short segment of the titleset. What's strange to me is that this out-of-sync element appears to be the very first vobid/cellno i.e. it's right in the beginning of the first VTS_01_1.VOB file, yet everything after this including the feature is in perfect sync. Here's the REBUILDER.INF first lines showing this particular out-of-sync part V0100001:

Any thoughts would be welcome, including any descriptions of where the syncing of audio & video actually occurs in RB-PRO; I can't make head-or-tail out of it!

OK maybe I have found an answer; I hope so.

I had used DVD43 the 1st time, with the original disc in the DVD drive. Now I'm trying it again using instead a VIDEO_TS titleset ripped using DVD Decrypter. Although the re-encode is not complete yet, since the out-of-sync piece is the first portion "worked on" by DVD-RB, I can already see that it is different; the AVS file created in each case is different in the "trim" line, and the size output for the M2V file is quite different also, now 137,468,028 bytes vs. 137,490,158 bytes for the oos file. The other m2v files appear to be tracking the same (and these were all in sync as I'd said).

I will report back here if it works this time, but preliminarily it appears that DVD43 is not a good companion program for DVD-RB 1.01...

My instincts were correct--DVD43 appears to have been the culprit. After ripping the disc in File mode w/DVDD and re-running, the out-of-sync interview is in-sync as it should be, as is everything else as best I can tell.
