Hi. I am new to using DVD-RB. I am trying to backup "Animatrix". I have a question about the selection of audio tracks with this particular disk.

I can speak only English and hence I usually remove all other language audio tracks. However, in the "Animatrix" disk there are two VTSs. VTS 01 has audio tracks in English, some other languages, Japanese 6 channel and Japanese 2 channel. Most PGCs in the VTS have English and japanese. However, a few PGCs within VTS 01 have only Japanese 2 channel. Obviously, non japanese speakers are expected to watch these PGCs with subtitles.

I want to ensure that I don't end up with any section of my movie without the audio. In order to do that in DVD-RB, should I select both English and Japanese 2ch or should i include the 6ch japanese track too? Does DVD-RB allow us to individually select audio tracks at the PGC level rather than the VTS level? Thanks for the help.

It's at the VTS level. In fact, I can't think of one tool I've used over the years (short of Scenarist when re-authoring) that'll give you that freedom in audio track selection.

The problem with trying to remove from one PGC and not another within the same VTS is that each of the PGCs may share cells with others. So removing the audio from one PGC could also remove it from a part of another.

I think you may want to just keep the audio.

Hmmm...I didn't know that. The first DVD backup tool(s) I ever tried was the Big3. However, I achieved very little success rate (10%) and eventually got tired of trying. That's when I gave DVD-RB a try and haven't looked at anything else since then :). I didn't know that no other software allowed you to mess around at the PGC level.

Okay. I guess I will keep the 2 channel Japanese audio track then. Will removal of the 6 channel audio from one PGC affect the 2-channel track on another PGC? I don't think it will, but I want to be really sure.

Once again, thank you so much for helping me, folks.
